321. Glamour Bonus Items
Written on Wednesday 23 August 2006 at 02:01 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
In several countries throughout the world, EA is offering bonus items when you purchase Glamour Life Stuff at selected retailers. Although EA UK has not yet announced a similar promotion, in America there are three stores where you can get one of three items: Target will get you a Gold Record for your Sims, at Wal-Mart you'll get an exclusive painting and at Best Buy you can ask for a Television set. In all cases you'll need to pick your copy up in a local store - online purchases probably do not apply. For more information see the Glamour Order page on the official site. To get the pack delivered to your doormat, you can pre-order the stuff pack from our shop.

323. E-Mail Problems Solved
Written on Wednesday 9 August 2006 at 17:00 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
If you recently tried becoming a member of The Sims Zone or our sister site the Spore Zone, you may not have received your registration e-mail, or you may have only just received it, after the normal 48 hours limit. You might also have tried sending us an e-mail through our contact form, but never got a reply. Due to some technical issues, the server hasn't sent out many e-mails, which means any e-mail sent between 3 August and today may not have been received by us, or hasn't been sent out properly. These problems have now fortunately been solved.

So if you sent us an email in the past couple of days, please try again. To try becoming a member again, head on over to the register page and fill in the details again. If it's been over 48 hours since you last tried, the username you picked should be free to use again, otherwise you might have to wait a little while.

We apologise for the inconvenience caused by these errors.

325. Pets Chat Transcript
Written on Sunday 30 July 2006 at 04:09 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Last Thursday Maxis held a chat about the Sims 2 Pets on PC. In that 30 minute chat several questions about the expansion pack were answered. For example that there will be about 35 dog and 15 cat breeds in the base game, and that there are five levels in each of the three careers for pets. You can also run a pet store if you have Open for Business, and to bathe your pets you'll need to use the regular bath tubs that are already in the game. Pets also have motives - as we already knew - but no aspirations. Also the family limits seem to have changed a little. Where it used to be a maximum of 10 sims and dogs or cats combined per household, that limit has now changed to 12. That can be a combination of up to 8 sims and up to 6 pets, though these limits might still change during the testing phase of development. The werewolve seems to be the new creature for this expansion. Another thing that pets can do, is sleep in one (double) bed with your sim. Besides the known pets there will also be a spraying skunk, and to prevent strays you can lock gates to stop animals coming through. There will be new music in the game as well, though Maxis didn't mention what it is. Naturally, when a pet dies, they'll get a tombstone as well. Their children will appear in a family tree as well. Dead pets can be resurrected, though they won't be able to return as zombie, even though they might appear as ghosts. To keep pets alive, there's the "Kibble of Life" which extends their life much like the Elixir does for Sims. Newborn dogs and cats come in litters with up to 4 puppies or kittens. There's more than that though, although most other questions were already answered earlier in for example our preview. Take a look at the full transcript for all the details.

After the announcement of Pets, the official site has had a few updates. First of all the intro splash has changed with a new theme, but there's also a new mini-game. On many pages you'll find a picture at the bottom of the left sidebar, which takes you to a puzzle page. Your task is to complete the screenshot by moving the pieces around. Check the image below for the reference screenshot.

327. Pets First Look at 1Up
Written on Sunday 30 July 2006 at 03:04 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Many gaming websites have previews of the Sims 2 Pets. We've already mentioned IGN and GameSpot, but there's also 1Up which has posted a preview of the PC Expansion. They start off with saying how three types of the pets in the pack - guinea pigs, birds and fish - aren't much more than glorified objects. When it comes to the dogs and cats though, there is much more to do. Starting with customising them from face to body, and giving them a personality. Pets also have needs, similar to those of Sims, but no aspirations. 1Up also mentions that you can't directly control your pets, and that they don't die of anything but old age. They can also chase up the guinea pigs, but won't be able to catch or kill them. The caged pets can only be scared to death by the bigger pets. Finally they briefly mention training and careers, and the lack of cats to be able to play chess against Sims. Read the complete preview for more information.

328. Pets Preview (PC, Console) and Video (PC) at GameSpot
Written on Sunday 30 July 2006 at 02:44 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Just like IGN, gaming site GameSpot has covered the Sims 2 Pets. Rather than writing several different previews though, there's just one preview which covers the PC and Console editions, and the differences between them. One of them is in the Create a Pet. Where the PC version sticks to collars for pet accessories, pets on the consoles can also have hats, sweaters, hoodies and tiny shoes. When it comes to living with the pets, you can train them to be good, or destructive, depending on when you scold or praise them. Pets can also be traded between neighbors, or you can adopt one from the animal shelter. You can also make dogs and cats have careers, to have them bring in some money. Exclusive to the console edition is the downtown area where you can purchase items for your pets, and meet other pet owners. The preview is one page in size.

Besides that, GameSpot has posted a slightly different trailer of the PC version. This video shows a few extended scenes from the official trailer. On the GameSpot Trailers page, watch or download "Official Movie 1" to see it.

330. Pets is Official [Updated]
Written on Thursday 27 July 2006 at 19:03 by ChEeTaH - 6 comments.
The Sims 2 Pets will be released on PC (Expansion pack), PlayStation 2, GameCube, Nintendo DS and GBA (Separate games) on 17 October. The PSP version, similar to the PS2 and GameCube version will be released about a month later. All versions feature dogs and cats, with Create a Pet as base to create them. Pets will need training and using codes you can unlock unique accessories in the games. The gameplay for all versions is open-ended, like the classic freeplay mode. On the PC there will be generations of pets, including the genetics, and careers for your pets in Security, Show Business or Service. On the consoles, PS2, GameCube and PSP, there will be a central town park where you can head over to with your pets, shop for pet items, and socialise with others. The DS version is all about managing a pet care centre, where you have to take care of other Sims' pets. Selling pet products gives you even more simoleons. Finally there's the GBA version, where you have to take care of the town's pets as well, in Barkersville. Again, teaching tricks is one of the tasks, but in this version you'll also be able to participate in tournaments and championships to win prizes.

Along with the announcement, EA has released a trailer, screenshots, artworks, pack shots and the logo, all of which you can find right here. For the trailer, please pick a high quality version (15.1 Mb) or the low quality version (4.0 Mb). Read more for all artworks, screenshots and packshots! As you can see on the pack shots, the European Pegi rating for all console and handheld versions will be 7+, compared to the 12+ rating for the PC. The American rating is still pending, although The Sims Zone has learned from Maxis that it'll be E10+ for the consoles and handhelds, and as you can see it's T for Teen for the PC expansion.

Check out the press release from EA for some more details, as well as the official product page. Also make sure you don't miss our preview later today, or the developer chat!
