1091. Pop-ups
Written on Thursday 12 December 2002 at 23:39 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
As you might have noticed, The Sims Zone is running out of money. We didn't put up the donations section for nothing last weekend... we need about £300 ($450) before the end of April next year. We hope you can help us out with that, as we don't want to become a pay site either. To get a bit of extra money from advertising (which isn't a lot at the moment), we've added pop-ups to our site. They will only pop up if you're not logged in as member. If you're not a member, then there's a chance that you will get to see a pop up. This depends on ValueClick at that moment, they have to have ads available at the time. If you feel like helping us out, please donate! You will get a few extra (special) files from us as reward. Besides that, if we get more money than we need, you will also support the RGA. Read all about it in the donations section. Thank you.

1092. Server Trouble Update
Written on Tuesday 3 December 2002 at 23:48 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
There's some news about the server trouble we're having with our .com server again. As you might have noticed, images are loading again which means the server is back up. However, due to the severe speed problems downloading files will remain disabled until at least tomorrow afternoon/evening. It could even be thursday afternoon before downloading will be re-enabled. The whole problem is that the server was put on a T1 connection (which is 1.544 mbit/sec or about 200kbyte/sec in total, for all connections). In other words, all users of this website and other websites on the same server had to share 200kb/sec, which often resulted in downloading speeds of about 0.2kb/sec per user. In that way, even downloading a small file of 100kb would take 5 minutes to download (where it should be under a minute even on a 56k modem connection!). Due to these unacceptable speeds, downloading will not be enabled again for now as we rather want to keep downloading on hold and make the site load slightly faster than make the whole site slow.

Our thesimszone.com server will be moved again probably tomorrow or thursday afternoon, but then to a 100MBit connection (12.5 MByte/sec in total, about 66 times as much as the current 'speed'). This should solve all the recent problems with speeds and downtime, and everything will be working again properly at normal speeds. Once the server has been moved, downloading will be enabled again, and our (still secret) new (and necessary) feature will be set up as well. We apologise for all this trouble, but hope you also understand that it is out of our control. Just remember we'll be back in two days time!

1093. Server trouble update
Written on Thursday 21 November 2002 at 00:51 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
As you might've noticed, downloading was disabled again part of today. It's now been re-enabled but 404 (Not Found) errors can start appearing at any time again. This is because the thesimszone.com domain (which we use to store our files and images) still points to the old server. The account was deleted there. After some asking, we got our account back online on that old server. Unfortunately, because that server is going out of business, it can be deleted at any time again. The new server should be activated in 48-72 hours (2-3 days), but it could differ a bit per ISP or where you live. Between the time the old server goes offline again, and the new server gets activated, downloading files will cause 404 errors. Emails are being redirected to other accounts for now, so emailing us should be no problem. These problems are out of our control, and we're unable to solve them - it's basically just a matter of waiting now. We sincerely apologise for all this inconvenience last week - especially since it's our anniversary week - but there isn't much we can do. In a few days time, we'll be back like before without problems.

1094. Server problems [Update]
Written on Thursday 14 November 2002 at 21:29 by ChEeTaH - 2 comments.
As you might have noticed, there are a few problems with our storage server (thesimszone.com) so images don't load and files cannot be downloaded from here at the moment. Emails sent to will probably also bounce. Unfortunately this is out of our (direct) control. We are currently working on fixing it, and the site should be back completely before our birthday. We apologise for any inconvenience caused during this downtime.

Note that the news, articles etc. can still be viewed, and you can also still browse most of the site. Only loading images, downloading files and sending emails doens't work at the moment.

Update 21:42: It turns out our host is moving our site to a different server. That means it will take up to 48-72 hours before the site is back completely again.

1096. The Neighborhood Handler 4.0 RC1 out
Written on Sunday 27 October 2002 at 23:44 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Just a couple of minutes ago, I released The Neighborhood Handler 4.0 RC1 (Release Candidate). This version is a version that is close to the final. A few bugs may have to be polished out, but as far as I know everything is working properly. But: only group members can download it yet. For those who haven't registered there yet, it's not too late. Visit the group site and register. You will immediately get an email with the download instructions (in the PS). And why you should download this new version? Here are some of the new functions:
  • Zipping and password-protecting back-ups is now possible
  • You can now also enter details (name and comments) for regular neighborhoods
  • You can now have up to 99 back-ups and 99 regular neighborhoods, a total of 198 neighborhoods
  • Support for the latest expansion pack, Unleashed, has been added.
A full list of updates is in the included readme file. Please note that this version is yet undocumented - i.e. the manual has not been updated and there's not a real decent readme file. Also, the DLL files of The Neighborhood Handler 3.8 are required. However, I can give support on it and you can email me with any questions you have about it. If you want to download it now, then join the group (for free). If you can wait a week, then you don't have to join as the program will be available to everybody next week, as a free download. For more information about the program, or to download the required DLL files, visit the website. For questions, email me.

1097. SimDay: Lots of links and some other things...
Written on Thursday 10 October 2002 at 20:26 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Quite a big SimDay this week, although most of it are just links to reviews of Unleashed or The Sims Deluxe. One that isn't in our Unleashed review index yet is this one from Computer Simulation Games. 2 other reviews are from the Gamer's Temple, from both Unleashed and Deluxe. To end the list, TSO has been featured at SeattlePi.com. To see a list of several reviews of Unleashed go here, for Deluxe click here. Furthermore, part 2 of the Unleashed Pet Skins has been made available to registered users. It's not a real big download (468 Kb), so just get it by following this link. Also the Exchange has been reopened to international users so you can download even more. There's a new warning message when downloading, so make sure you read that. Finally, an Unleashed FAQ has been uploaded at the official site which answers questions from rezoning to getting rid of unwanted animals. The FAQ can be found here. That's all for this week, from the official site.

1098. New Meshes Posted
Written on Tuesday 8 October 2002 at 20:44 by Jendea - 0 comments.
New casual shirred top with boot leg jeans mesh posted today with two skins included. Also posted is the head which is also a new mesh and includes two skins too. I think Fionn has every possible hairstyle imaginable available already, so I am concentrating on the face shapes. This one is a heart-shaped face with a slight slant to the eyes.

Check them both out under: my section Jendea or under Skins

1099. First New Mesh Posted!
Written on Sunday 6 October 2002 at 10:21 by Jendea - 4 comments.
The first in a series of new meshes posts today! I'm starting with a simple gown. This mesh is curvier than the Maxis straight dress, with a larger hip and bustline, tapered on the legs and waist.
The dress is modeled after a maroon gown worn by Catherine Zeta-Jones to the Cancer Society Dream Ball. Both "normal" and Hotdate buyable skins and meshes in the zip.
The new head is "Mallory" (head mesh by Fionn!).

Check them both out under: my section Jendea or under Skins
