1061. New Poll
Written on Thursday 20 November 2003 at 01:00 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Last week we had a poll running about how good you think Makin' Magic is. A lot of people (348) voted, and nearly half of that group (162 people, 47%) says "It's awesome!". 80 People (23%) say it's just "Pretty good". 11%, 39 people, voted for "I've been living under a rock and don't know what it is" (they probably don't have it too)... All the results are on this page. In our new poll we want to know how your Sims pay their bills and goods. Or at least how you think they pay. Tell us by voting at the right or on this page.

1062. TS2U Special Part II
Written on Thursday 20 November 2003 at 00:41 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
The special about The Sims 2 University has been updated, and part 2: "The House of your Dreams" has been added. This part contains information about the improved build mode in The Sims 2. Just to give you a sneak-peek: here's a snippet:
"After selecting an area to build on, it's time to actually build that house of your Sims' dreams. New to The Sims 2 are the foundations, which will allow you to build on hilly terrain. In The Sims 1 hills caused a lot of problems when you built your house, but that's no longer an issue. Simply place blocks of foundation - either straight or diagonal - anywhere on the lot, within the available tiles anyway. The foundations will be placed a bit higher than the ground itself. Because Sims don't like to take high steps, you should also place some modular stairs. Because the stairs and its railings can be placed manually, you're able to create many different stairs, with no, 1 or 2 railings, in any combination you like."
You can read the new part here. To read the entire special from the start (yesterday's bit has been changed a tiny little bit), click here. Come back soon for more content!

1064. The Sims 2 Media
Written on Sunday 9 November 2003 at 23:50 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
This weekend we can provide some media for The Sims 2 again, directly from Maxis. This week there's one movie and 2 screenshots (of which one old one). But first: a The Sims 2 newsletter. Maxis has launched a new one for The Sims 2, "The Sims 2 Scoop", which will provide in-depth info about The Sims 2: screens, videos, special offers and more. You can sign up for that at http://preferences.fun.ea.com/ea/mf_TheSims2.asp. On to the movie: remember the shy and outgoing girls who starred in the filmstrip 2 weeks ago? They've now been seen in full motion, telling the same story: who kisses the boy next door first? We can give it to you in two versions: high quality (14 Mb) and low quality (3 Mb). You'll need QuickTime to see it. Finally, the two screenshots, which this time show how easy you can change the entire look of a room. Note that these images are quite big and might take a while to load:

1065. Sims 2 Screenshots
Written on Sunday 26 October 2003 at 13:17 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
We have some new graphics of The Sims 2 for you, directly from Maxis. It's fashion time so it seems, as two of them are from SACAS (Stand Alone Create A Sim tool - Maxis is still looking for a new name for that. E-mail me if you have one and I'll forward it). Two others show off different Sims (male and female) in different outfits. The SACAS ones look similar but are slightly different. Finally, there's a (huge) film strip. It shows what happens when a shy Sim and an outgoing Sim compete for their first kiss with the boy from next door. Click the images below to see the bigger versions. Note that the filmstrip is 2 Mb, and may take quite a while to load.

Also, our affiliate SimsZone.de has posted 3 screenshots from a German magazine. The quality isn't great because the pictures are scanned. You can find them on the front page ("Die Sims 2: Drei weitere Bilder"), or in their screenshots index under "Die Sims 2" at the right.

1066. The Sims 2 Update
Written on Sunday 12 October 2003 at 02:05 by ChEeTaH - 1 comment.
We have quite some Sims 2 news for you, directly from Maxis. First of all, the Sims 2 website is close to launch. It will have a special Community section. We've been given a sneek preview of the front page in development. If you want to see it, click here. We've also been told about a Sims 2 Preview CD that will be included with Makin' Magic only. On the cd you can see a lot of information like a making-of The Sims 2, and a lot of game info. There even is a 1 minute trailer for it, which you can see by clicking one of the following links:

  • High Quality (7.1 Mb)
  • Low Quality (1.8 Mb)

  • In both cases you'll need QuickTime to play it. Do NOT link directly to these files if you have your own site. The links won't work, plus we'll remove the files from our servers if this happens.

But there's more inside (click "Read More" if it's there, else read on): screenshots, and the Create-A-Sim tool...

1067. New at TSZ: RSS Feeds
Written on Saturday 27 September 2003 at 23:53 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
As promised I've added a new feature to The Sims Zone: RSS Feeds. It took us a while to get it right, but it seems to be working fine now. These feeds (also known as RDF feeds) allow you to quickly get the latest headlines from The Sims Zone without having to visit this site. All you have to get is an RSS reader like FeedDemon or FeedReader, and add the proper urls to the reader. Then the reader will keep you up-to-date immediately. We currently have two feeds, one for the latest news and one for the community news. If you're already familiar with RSS, you can use these urls (note: these are NOT meant to be viewed by your web browser!):

    These RSS feeds are valid!
  • News: http://www.thesimszone.co.uk/rss/news.rss (Validate)
  • Community News: http://www.thesimszone.co.uk/rss/cnews.rss (Validate)

  • If you want to know more about RSS and our feeds, then visit our RSS page. There you can find a lot more detailed information about how to use these feeds. You can always access that page by clicking the "RSS" buttons under News and Community News. Please post your comments and give us feedback about it. If you want to see the latest headlines and more in the side panel of your browser without having to visit The Sims Zone, you can still get our TSZ Sidebar.

    1068. New Poll
Written on Thursday 7 August 2003 at 22:58 by Steve - 0 comments.
It's Thursday and that means two things, SimDay and the poll change here at The Sims Zone. With the latest expansion pack for The Sims 1 coming out soon this will take us to seven expansion packs for The Sims. So, this week we are asking you how many expansion packs you think The Sims 2 will have. You can vote on the right of this page, or by going here.

Of course, with the new poll, it also means the results of the old poll are in. Last week we asked you, "Which name is better: Makin' Magic, or Spellbound?" We received 354 votes, and the result was incredibly close, only 1% between the top two answers. Spellbound was your favourite name (151 votes), with Makin' Magic receiving just 4 votes less (147). 29 people didn't know what we were talking about, and 9 people did not like either name for the new expansion pack.

You can view results from other polls by clicking here.

    1069. We're back... sort of [Update 2]
Written on Sunday 27 July 2003 at 14:36 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Our regular visitors may have noticed this site's been offline for a while since Friday. We've been transferred to a new server (according to our host it should be faster and more reliable), which is now up and running. Currently, only thesimszone.com is working, our .co.uk domain still has been updated (and will be working soon). That should be done soon, and we hope that will be working again later this week. It will be back completely by Wednesday. Unfortunately, the back-up of our database was done before the site was taken offline, so we've lost several things since the site got deleted: all member sign-ups, votes in the poll and a news post about the last SimDay have gone lost. Those who signed up Thursday or Friday might have to sign up again. Please try logging in first, if it says your username is invalid you know you have to register again. You can use the same username as before. If you're lucky you can vote in the poll again. If not, there's unfortunately nothing you can do - you'll be able to vote again in the next poll that will be posted on Thursday as usual.

We also still have a few things to set up. E-mails will arrive, but they might not arrive at the right person. Also we still need to set up a few things to get the donation files working again. There might be another few minor things to go through.

If you sent us an email recently and we haven't replied to it, or we still have to add/change your link, help you out, whatsoever, just e-mail me and I'll make sure you get the help you need.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the move and the downtime. The Sims Zone is now back and running as normal, except for the .co.uk domain not working just yet.

[Update 28 July 2003, 0:30] Our thesimszone.co.uk domain has been updated, and will be active again within 24-48 hours (depending on your ISP). It might still need some tweaking once it's up, but we should be back completely again by Wednesday. E-mails might not (properly) arrive for another 24 hours though. Please do not send us emails today, wait until 29 July. Thank you.

[Update 31 July 2003, 10:20] It's all working again now, both .co.uk and .com. We'll soon be swapping the domains back, so thesimszone.co.uk will be our main domain. Besides that I'll be making a fix to make the time show correctly again (it's 1 hour behind now). All of that should be fixed soon.

Now: on to the news that you've missed while The Sims Zone was offline, including the SimDay...

1070. New poll: Are you gonna make magic?
Written on Thursday 17 July 2003 at 02:00 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Last week we asked you what you think of the tools from Maxis. The results: most people love them. Going from top to bottom the options got less votes. 15% doesn't have any of Maxis' tools, and 6% doesn't know about them. We want to thank all 143 people who voted. Check out more detailed results right here. This week we've launched another poll (like always). Since Makin' Magic has been announced now, we're wondering if you think it'll be worth it. Tell us by voting at the right, or at this page.
