61. SimDay
Written on Thursday 9 December 2004 at 21:21 by ChEeTaH - 2 comments.
Besides the chat tonight, which we told you about earlier this week, this week's SimDay has one interview. Pinstar1161 made up a challenge in the official BBS, called "The Legacy Challenge." This challenge asks of you to play the Sims 2 without cheats or cheat objects. Raise 10 generations of Sims, starting with a single Sim on an empty 5x5 lot, and make them as great as possible. The better you do, the more points you score. All for a bit of honour, there's nothing to win. Pinstar1161 has been interviewed about this famous challenge, which can now be read on the official site. If you want to check it out, check the interview page.

Written on Friday 26 November 2004 at 17:41 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
This week was no exception when it comes to the weekly SimDays. On the theme of the first expansion pack, University, Maxis has added a new style for your MySim pages. A sample can be found on MaxoidMonkey's page. If you'd like to change the style of your page, go to the manage page.

Furthermore, Maxis needs some people to attend in a focus group. During two hours and 15 minutes you will join a discussion about the Sims 2. The event will be held in the San Francisco Bay Area, and you'll have to live nearby to qualify. You also need to own a copy of the Sims 2. See the related newspost for more information.

If you remember the horror movie contest, you might be excited to know the winners have been announced. Aprilsghoffmann won the contest, and Jhearing4848 and Baconandeggzie were runner-ups. You can view all three of them and two more honorable mentions on the contest page.

Finally there's a new article from Time.com. The Sims 2 has been named one of the coolest video games of 2004. See the Time.com article for more information.

64. SimDay: The Strangerhood [Update]
Written on Thursday 11 November 2004 at 13:43 by ChEeTaH - 1 comment.
This week's SimDay is more like a StrangerhoodDay. But first, MaxoidKane has sent out a private message to all registered members. Maxis will be cleaning out the exchange, by removing unpopular files from the database. That way, Maxis hopes to make it easier for people to find what they're looking for. Anything that was posted "in the last 21 days, featured items, frequently downloaded items, and rated content" will be kept, anything else will be removed. It's recommended to make a local back-up copy if you fear your content will be deleted, so you can always reupload it:
"Our creative and talented Sims 2 community has been growing at a fantastic rate and in turn the Exchange has been growing at a rapid rate. We've found it has become difficult for users to wade through the incredible amounts of content. We think that regularly removing unused content from the system provides a benefit to users looking for quality content.

"Beginning next week, we'll be pruning the Exchange database on a regular basis in order to help users trying to locate quality content and to provide space for more content in the future. Content added in the last 21 days, featured items, frequently downloaded items, and rated content will be retained. Content that does not meet this criteria will be removed. Rest assured, we have adjusted the criteria for the length of time the content has been on the exchange. If you're worried about your content being removed, please back up a copy of your content locally. We'll conduct regular cleanings of the Exchange following this criteria from now on."
Furthermore, there's some Strangerhood news. Tonight at 3pm PST (11pm GMT, midnight in Europe) a chat will be held with two creators of the series, Burnie and Matt from Rooster Teeth Productions. You can join the chat to ask them questions about writing scripts or creating the movies. The auditorium will open approximately 10 minutes before the chat starts. You can find it on the chat page. Rooster Teeth has also made a second episode of the series, titled "The one with the Premise". It's just under 5 minutes and comes in DivX, Windows Media and QuickTime format. You can download it from the Strangerhood Archive.

[Update 12 November, 1:45am] The chat transcript has been posted. If you want to know more about the series or the guys behind it, you might want to read it. Episode 2 of the series is now also available for download on the official Sims 2 site, which you can use if the Strangerhood one is slow for you. Finally, something that was posted late this simday, is a new object. The Greek "Touch of Autumn" Cornucopia can function as decoration in any Sims 2 house. You can download it from this page on the Exchange.

66. SimDay

Besides the announcement for The StrangerHood Episode 1, there's something new available at the official site. You can now edit your MySim page, and give it a Strangetown look. It's black, and features some characters from Strangetown. You can also still pick the (default) Sims 2 or an Urbz look for your MySim page. It applies only to your page, so while surfing through the MySim pages you might come across all three pages. To pick your favourite style, edit your account (you must be logged in on the official site).

Something else comes from the German official site. They've posted a new (English) video showing you 5 reasons to live - linked to the 5 aspirations of the Sims 2. That, and an older TV ad, can be found in their videos section. Click the "High" link next to "5 GrĂ¼nde zu leben" ("5 reasons to live") to see the new video.

67. Sims 2 News
Written on Sunday 5 September 2004 at 01:02 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
There's a bit of Sims 2 news again today, as almost every day since the game went gold. In today's issue: a hands-on preview, videos, a bit about the website, and an interview with Will Wright. The preview is from IGN. After their feature series of SimIGN, they now have a full 3-page preview. It's mostly about the personality - especially the difference in it - of the Sims in the sequel. Aging and DNA are also told about, and of course some screenshots are included. There's also a video, made with the in-game tools to record, and edited with the Windows Movie Maker. Download the "SimIGN in Action" video from the Videos page, or just read the hands-on preview for more.

More news inside!

68. Chat Transcripts
Written on Saturday 3 July 2004 at 03:07 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
The chat with Neil Young, the new General Manager of Maxis since March, was quite a success. It's over though, and many questions have been answered. A few interesting things are that the first expansion for The Sims 2 will be released early next year, and there are currently 5 designs for expansion packs, with one being released approximately every 6 months. When the game itself is released in September, you can get it in either a 4 CD(!) version, or all on one DVD. The current plan is that the DVD will be for pre-order customers only, which means it won't be available in regular stores. However, that's subject to change, and of course we hope it'll be a stayer. About the release date: as everybody knows it should be in stores 17 September almost worldwide, but it may be a little earlier in some countries, depending on their usual release days for games. The release date for the Mac version of The Sims 2 has not yet been announced, but there definitely will be a Mac version. MySim pages on the official site will be enhanced for The Sims 2. New tools to create custom content will also be released, but most likely only after the release of the game itself. Something that should definitely be highlighted is that in some way we can expect multiplayer options to come to The Sims 2 next year, which will probably mean in the second expansion pack. It's not sure how that will work out exactly, though it's said it won't be a "Persistant World" (PSW) like The Sims Online is. Unfortunately that's all there's being said about it, but we should get more info about that next year.

About the Urbz, there's the news that it's currently planned to be released 16 November. Very interesting was the news that Maxis is planning to make Sims games (possibly the URBZ) for PlayStation Portable (PSP) and the Nintendo Dual Screen (DS). Finally there's some talking about SimCity 5, which is supposed to "go back to its roots" and Will's upcoming game. We'll probably hear the first official word about that game early next year, or at least "after the holiday season". You can read the entire transcripts, with also some personal information about Neil Young, on the Sims 2 site or the Sims 1 site.

69. Late SimDay: PS2 Previews
Written on Friday 15 November 2002 at 22:04 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
This week's simday was put up late, hence this late report. All that's interesting now is that there are 3 links to short previews of The Sims on PS2. There's on at IGN, another one at Gaming Nexus and another one at GameZone. The IGN one is just a development update really. However, there are some new screenshots. The same goes for the GameZone one, which also has a bunch of new screenshots. The Gaming Nexus one is a short product overview, with a list of key features:
  • The Sims in 3D - Explore an entirely new 3D world that harnesses the full power of the PlayStation 2. The controller-based interface makes controlling your Sims and creating their world a snap.
  • Level based game play Start with just one Sim in a shack and move into bigger and better homes as you advance through lifes big moments. Meet new neighbors and unlock objects along the way.
  • Play The Sims with a friend - For the first time, two players can now control their own Sims in the same Sim environments. Play all new two-player games for popularity points and money. Save your house and Sims on a memory card and play them on a friends system.
  • PlayStation 2 exclusive content Meet and interact with new characters and play with new objects not found on any PC version of The Sims. Customize your Sims appearance to a new level of detail found only on the PlayStation 2 console.
  • Open Ended Gameplay: Just like in the PC version of the Sims you can create and control your Sims in the no winners or losers gameplay. Set your own goals and play at your own pace to create your perfect Sims home.
  • The last bit of this SimDay is about last night's MySims featured chat. A transcript of it will be put up soon enough, for everybody who missed it.

    70. SimDay - MySims Launched!
Written on Friday 27 September 2002 at 16:11 by Matthew - 0 comments.
This weeks SimDay is here, finally. Wonder what caused the delays? Anyway, the first item on the agenda is the new MySims feature on the site itself. If you've been there and logged in in the last twenty-four hours or so, you may have seen a little logo for it. Wondered what it's about? Well wonder no more. Here's a brief summary from the help pages:
'Your SimPage is a place to keep track of things you've uploaded to the Sims Exchange, as well as all of the cool things you've seen that other people have uploaded. Express yourself! Show people that you've noticed their cool creations! Trying to find a Sim you uploaded weeks ago? Go to your SimPage and you can find your Sim as easy as 1-2-3.'
Also interesting about this whole feature is that it appears to be another way in which they're trying to sell you the Deluxe edition. For instance, Deluxe SimsPages won't have banner ads like the non-deluxe ones. Deluxe owners get to do more customising. Deluxe pages are the only ones that can be added to SimsLists. Any views on this whole issue? Make sure you leave a comment here then. For more on MySims, go to the official site, or more specifically the help pages for it. But that's not all this week.. keep reading!
