181. Family Fun Stuff More Expensive [Update - April Fools]
Written on Saturday 1 April 2006 at 13:59 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
The first "Stuff" pack for the Sims 2, Family Fun Stuff, will be released later this month. Although previously it was said to be sold at a price of $20, EA has decided to increase the price. Packaging and shipping costs are the main reason. The so-called "Gold Master" CD, the very first CD containing the product which will then be copied to the pressed versions, was broken. The pack had already gone gold, yet unannounced by a press release from EA. This has made millions of already printed copies unusable. These copies cannot be sold anymore, and will be destroyed next week. A new, working version has been made yesterday and is in testing over the weekend. It's expected to be sent to the CD printing factories next week. Family Fun Stuff will be released in stores a week later, but a version at EA Downloader will be released at the given date of 13 April. Due to this misprint the pack will also be sold at a higher price than mentioned before for the first couple of weeks: $25 instead of $20. Availability of the product might also be lower than usual. The price will probably drop back to $20 when the next Stuff pack is released. That rumoured Glamour pack is expected late June. If nothing goes wrong with that, Glamour Stuff will probably start selling at $20.

April Fools!

[Update 2 April, 1:04] Did we kid you? The truth is that Family Fun Stuff will be released on time, in the week of 13 April, for the price of $20 (or roughly the equivalent in any other local currency). Although the game has probably gone gold by now, considering the short time to the release, this has not yet been announced or confirmed by EA. An EA Downloader version too has not yet been confirmed. All the details about that will be posted here as we get the news. Next year, keep in mind that the first of April is a day when we'll post something that's not entirely true...

Written on Wednesday 29 March 2006 at 01:55 by ChEeTaH - 2 comments.
Aspyr is well-known for porting PC games to the Mac platform. They've done so with the entire PC Sims series so far. Recently they released the Sims 1 Complete Collection for the Mac, which is the Sims 1 with all its expansion packs. For fans of the Sims 2 there's news that Nightlife, the second expansion pack, has gone gold for the platform. More information can be found on their respective product pages: The Sims Complete Collection and The Sims 2 Nightlife. Among a couple of screenshots you'll also find system requirements there. Both products can be bought from our Mac shop.

183. "Run with Scissors" Object Updated
Written on Wednesday 22 March 2006 at 11:28 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Along with the Open for Business patch released yesterday, Maxis has fixed an older download to prevent conflicts with the latest expansion pack. The "Run with Scissors" April Fool's download of last year can now be redownloaded from the exchange. The download will work whether you have Open for Business or not. What has been changed exactly is unclear.

184. IGN Reviews Open for Business
Written on Wednesday 22 March 2006 at 00:00 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
A little later than most other sites, gaming site IGN has now also reviewed Open for Business. They say that running a Sims business is sometimes more like work than play, but fun nonetheless - although not too intuitive, as previous reviews have also mentioned. Checking the manual helps out though. They also comment that the talent badges are somewhat mysterious - skills do accelerate getting badges, but it doesn't say which skills help with what badges. The new items in the game are well-made by Maxis, including some of the crafted toys and robots besides the usual furniture. Altogether it is the least fun Sims 2 expansion so far, as it requires a lot of work to get a successful business. Overall IGN gives the pack a rating of 7.8 out of 10. Read the complete review over two pages for all of IGN's thoughts about the game.

186. OfB Yahoo! IMVironment
Written on Friday 17 March 2006 at 02:06 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Those using the latest Windows version of Yahoo! Messenger have been able to give it a Nightlife look before, using a Nightlife IMVironment - an interactive background that you can choose to colour your chat windows a bit. With the release of Open for Business, Yahoo! and EA have repeated this trick, and a new IMVironment is available. Check out the OfB IMVironment page to use it.

187. Depeche Mode Simlish Music Video [Update]
Written on Thursday 2 March 2006 at 22:11 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
The band Depeche Mode has recorded their hit "Suffer Well" for Open for Business, in Simlish. Maxis has created a music video of this song, naturally starring a lot of Sims and robots. Other artists, Kajagoogoo and Howard Jones, were interviewed in a podcast, and it's not sure if this video is instead of a Depeche Mode podcast, or if it's an extra - but time will tell. For now you can download the video, in QuickTime format, from the news page.

[Update 3 March 11:10] The QuickTime versions of the video have been taken offline from the news page, but instead a Flash video has been put online, together with some information about the band's latest album. You can find it all on the video's page. If you prefer getting a QuickTime version, you're not completely lost yet. The files are still available, either in high quality (17.3 Mb) or low quality (4.4 Mb) - these files can be removed at any time though, so it's best to get them quickly if you want them.

188. Family Fun Stuff Pack Confirmed
Written on Saturday 25 February 2006 at 19:25 by ChEeTaH - 2 comments.
Some people are already getting their copies of Open for Business. Especially in Switzerland and Austria the pack has already been released. Where University and Nightlife came with an announcement of the next expansion pack, that's not the case with Open for Business. Rather than looking 6 months ahead, it's just 2 months this time, with the announcement of the Family Fun Stuff pack. The Fun Stuff pack, which will cost roughly $20, has been spotted several times before, earlier this month, together with a Glamour Stuff pack (which is not announced now). Rather than being a full expansion pack, a Stuff pack will only contain several objects, clothing, déco items and accessories for Sims. This pack will have, as the name says, a family theme. There will be Fantasy and Underwater sets for children's bedrooms, upscale Nautical furnishings for the family room and adventurous costumes for kids, matching outfits for group outings with the family. In total there will be 60 items, including castle beds, sun dresses and tropical wall hangings. Family Fun is said to be released in April, and although most shops have now removed their entries, rumours from dates posted there suggest it'll be late April. It's not yet sure when Maxis will officially announce the pack, if it'll be available through EA Downloader introduced last year, and when pre-orders will start to be taken - but as always we'll keep you updated with that information. The ad on the Open for Business can be seen by clicking the thumbnail below. Thanks to SimTimes (German) for posting the images.

189. OfB Information from Strategy Guide
Written on Saturday 25 February 2006 at 19:07 by ChEeTaH - 4 comments.
It's not uncommon that Prima's strategy guides for the Sims games are packed with little details for the games. The guide for Open for Business is no exception. A few people have already received the guide and are posting information out of it on the internet. Three of them are rosierealea (thanks to SnootySims for the link), Mmmyrs2 (thanks to Hiki for the link) and vibrateforyou. Altogether there's a lot of new information about the expansion pack in the guide, including cheats, new interactions, many details of robots and specifically Servo, and much more. Read on for the new details that have been posted. Beware for spoilers!

190. Open for Business Guide Details [Update]
Written on Thursday 23 February 2006 at 00:46 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Publisher Prima Games is, as usual with Sims games, publishing a strategy guide for Open for Business. Details of the book have now been put online, and as with the other guides the details of the game are covered in-depth over 208 pages. Although not mentioned, it can be assumed that the book will be in full color, and will also include some essentials for the Sims 2, similar to the Nightlife guide. Some of the topics that will be covered in the book are:
  • The secrets of Talent Badges
  • What makes customers tick and how to use it against them!
  • New objects and socials cataloged for easy reference
  • How to get the most from employees to make your business pay!
  • Elevators and other build mode tools covered so you can make your showrooms sparkle
A cover image of the guide has not been made available yet. A few sample pages might also be given away at a later date, although there's no confirmation about that. You can find above details on Prima's product page, and you can pre-order it from our shop.

[Update 25 February, 14:30] The front cover of the book is now available, and as you can see the guide contains tables for The Sims 2, University and Nightlife. These are probably the essential tables listing objects and such, similar to those included in the Nightlife guide.
