842. Even more Bustin' Out Stuff
Written on Friday 11 July 2003 at 23:15 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
IGN has been at Camp EA as well, and after GameSpot (read this and this) they've posted several things about The Sims Bustin' Out. First of all: the screenies. There are the 6 new ones from the GBA version which we already saw yesterday, at this page. They've also written a hands-on preview, which you can read right here. They get into detail about the story mode in the game, and the town your Sim can go to. Then there's a preview of Bustin' Out on PS2, GameCube and X-Box. Once again they're all the same, and you can find it right here. They talk about the upgraded graphics, the revamped Create-A-Sim, the transportation, and new ways to kill Sims, all on 2 pages. Along with that there are 4 brand new screenshots, all available at this page. Then they've posted the trailer again, which is available for free from the same page (in streaming format), or in high res for download for those who are IGN Insiders. Finally, back to GameSpot, there's a video interview with Fred Dieckmann (associate Producer of Bustin' Out), for the GameSpot Complete members...

843. Expansion 7: Makin' Magic (instead of Spellbound) [Update 18:30]
Written on Wednesday 9 July 2003 at 20:08 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
We've heard a lot about a seventh expansion pack in the past, called Spellbound. It looks like that was just a working title, as a press release has already leaked: The Sims Makin' Magic will be released 31 October in Europe, probably a week earlier (24 October) in the US. Although the press release isn't available in English yet, there's a Dutch version of it available at this page (at the official Dutch site). Sims will be able to cast magical tricks to improve their love life, cause chaos at angry neighbours, or make an end to all their worries. There will be another new area ("Magic Town") where you can meet new characters, show off your magic, or discover secret recipes for spells. You can also change the regular objects into personal helps, hypnotise your friends or change that boring woman nextdoor into a frog. If your Sims aren't skilled enough, anything can go wrong. That's about all that the press release says. When there's an English press release available (which will be very soon), we'll mention it. Stay tuned!

[Update 18:30] I missed the two screenshots at the bottom of the press release. Here they are anyway:

Written on Wednesday 2 July 2003 at 13:17 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
IGN Gameboy has posted a preview of The Sims Bustin' Out on the GBA. In it is the information we saw in yesterday's news. However, it comes with 3 little new things: screenshots. These are about a Sim that has to go, a calling Sim and a Sim on a Bridge (below). You can check out their preview at this page. The screenshots are on this media page.

845. Lame Simday... again
Written on Thursday 19 June 2003 at 22:19 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
This week just 2 links to other sites from the official site. The first one is a link to this preview of Superstar at TechTV. It's not too interesting though, the mention what we've read before once again. For the other reviews, click here to go to our review index. The other link is to this article at USAToday. The article talks about transforming celebrities into animated characters in video games. Of course Superstar is also mentioned:
"Celebs in the neighborhood. Aguilera and Avril Lavigne are the newest guests knocking at the door in the new The Sims Superstar games. Jon Bon Jovi is being developed for an upcoming Sims character. Freddie Prinze Jr. and Trebek are in the discussion phase."
That, and a community update, is all for this week. Perhaps a decent simday next week... or not.

847. TSO Interview
Written on Thursday 12 June 2003 at 02:04 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
The Sims Online has been out for over 6 months now (in the US anyway), and apparantly some mobsters have appeared in the game. GameGossip mentioned it, and talked to Maxis about it. Kyle Brink has some nice things to say about it. Like this:
GaneGossip: "We suggest Neighborhood Watch. Or vigilante rule. Your reactions?
Kyle Brink: "Bo-ring! Come on, why limit yourself? Get creative. There are so many ways to respond to this sort of behavior.

"Personally, I choose to find entertainment in it. Sure, I could go for the standard "gang vs. gang" model. Or I could plant myself as a new member in one of these groups, then manipulate them into an internal civil war. Or I can ignore them entirely - set my property to use the "admit list" only, and rely on word of mouth to add people to my list. Nothing a wannabe crime lord hates more than being ignored. Except maybe being mocked, which is yet another angle I can take."
The whole interview isn't too long, but it's nice to read if you play The Sims Online. Click here for the full thing.

848. More about Spellbound
Written on Wednesday 11 June 2003 at 13:09 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
The Bank of America Security Software Market Oulook 2003 has predicted one more expansion pack before the release of The Sims 2. The expansion would arrive in fall 2003. Although they report it as yet unnamed, Spellbound is most likely the name since that's what Amazon had up for pre-order late last month (they removed it now). The Bank of America doesn't state this is the very last expansion pack for The Sims 1, and as Will Wright said in an audio interview with GameSpy, we can still expect an 8th expansion after Spellbound. Will said they might be expanding The Sims 1 after The Sims 2 is out, because there will still be people playing the old game, and not everybody will have the system necessary for The Sims 2. Read a bit more (but not much) at IGN.

850. The Neighborhood Handler 4.10 Released
Written on Sunday 8 June 2003 at 19:01 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
I've just released The Neighborhood Handler 4.10 - but not everybody can get it yet. For this week, only TNHH group members can get it now (sign up and you'll be able to download it now too!). The major new things are the 2 new functions: Rezoning, which will rezone an (Unleashed) neighborhood home to community area or vice versa without demolishing a building, and the Family Index feature. That one will basically list all the families in all your back-ups and neighborhoods, and show you their details and the details of every single Sim, which makes it very convenient for you to find a specific family or Sim. Besides that there are many bugfixes again, and the installation now also places an icon to the program on your Desktop. It's definately worth downloading, but you'll have to join the group first. More information can be found at the TNHH Website. If you don't want to join the group, then you'll have to wait one week before you can download this new version from The Sims Zone.
