811. Screenshot update
Written on Sunday 21 September 2003 at 18:43 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Several new screenshots have been posted recently, including quite a few from Bustin' Out on the GBA. But first 2 screenshots of Makin' Magic: they're rather small, but not too bad. They're from EAGames.com, and you can find them on the Makin' Magic page. More screenshots come from the official UK site of The Sims. These are 3 shots of Bustin' Out on the GBA. You can see those new ones, and of course several older pics, at this page. Finally, IGN has posted an interview with Virginia McArthur from Maxis. Here's a snippet about making money:
"There is also a whole new way to earn money on the GBA: you can play mini-games! Your Sim can visit several mini-game locations, where you can play games to earn Simoleons. Depending on the skills of your Sims and the number of their friends, you make even more Simoleons each time you play the games."
They also talk about a GBA-to-GBA connection, which will be included as well as the GBA-to-GameCube connection feature. Connecting two GBA's will unlock the "Paradise Island" location, which can become a second home for your Sim. Trading items with other Sims or even an "auction" system will also be available. All that new info comes with 2 screenshots, which are here. The interview itself, divided over 2 pages, is right here.

812. New screenshot(s) Sims 2
Written on Sunday 14 September 2003 at 00:23 by ChEeTaH - 1 comment.
The german SimsZone.de has posted another exclusive shot of The Sims 2 (after several new shots yesterday). Actually, it's 7 screenshots in one. It shows 7 screenshots on a 'film strip', showing some Sims getting up, showering/washing and having breakfast. These show quite nicely how detailed the graphics of The Sims 2 are. The screenshots aren't in the right order (by time). The image is 1.2 Mb. To see it, you'll have to visit SimsZone.de. You can find it in screenshots under "Die Sims 2" (scroll to the very bottom of the page), or on their front page for now. Here's a little thumbnail:

813. Bustin' Out goes online on PS2
Written on Saturday 13 September 2003 at 16:07 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
EA Games has announced several of its new games will be playable online on the PS2. These include The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, Need for Speed Underground, Medal of Honor Rising Sun and... The Sims Bustin' Out. The last title is of course the one we're interested in. In an online game, two players can play cooperative online, use an "online trading system" (where players can exchange unlockable interactions and objects), and a matchmaker screen. Here's the bit from the press release:
"The Sims Bustin’ Out will feature two-player cooperative gameplay online, which lets players work their way through any of the game’s unique career paths. The game will also feature an online trading system that will allow players to swap unlockable social interactions such as Pull Finger and Moonwalk or objects like a Climbing Wall and DJ Booth. In addition to bestowing bragging rights, these wacky social interactions and highly coveted objects will also affect the gameplay. Online play will also feature a lobby where a matchmaker screen displays the astrological signs, genders, and personalities of other Sims, so that players can effectively choose their gaming partners. Since two Sims are better than one at getting the job done, online play will make it even easier to accomplish goals, satisfy motives, and get your Sims into trouble in The Sims Bustin’ Out."
The game (as well as the other 3) will also include support for USB headsets to chat hands-free. For all these features, an internet connection to your PS2 (using a network adapter) and a memory card are required. A broadband connection is required for hands-free chatting, and recommended for playing online. To read the whole press release, which includes details for the other games as well, click here.

820. Gamers Temple's Interview with Jonathan Knight
Written on Sunday 7 September 2003 at 07:02 by Stash - 0 comments.
GamersTemple.com has posted a new interviewed "Makin' Magic" game designer Jonathan Knight. It tells us a lot about the game, like magic, dragons, magic town, roller coasters, creepy hollow, new characters, objects, and more. The interview is very nice, and must read for anyone interested in the game. The interivew is 4 pages long, and gives us great details of how the new objects and gameplay will work. To read the whole article click here.

GT: One of the new objects for the home is the Dragon Nest. Will players need Unleashed to hatch a pet dragon? How big will the dragon grow and will it set fire to everything?
JK: No, you do not need Unleashed to enjoy the pet dragon. Just buy the Dragon Nest (egg included) at Magic Town, bring it home, and take care of it. Depending on how well you care for the egg, different dragon personalities may emerge from the egg. Some personalities are more, well, fiery than others.

GT: Will Magic Town be a separate location similar to Downtown or Studio Town?
JK: A little bit of both. Like Downtown or Studio Town, it’s a new and fully customizable location. However, Magic Town is unique in two ways. First, you can either take the whole family there, or you can opt to just take a single Sim. And most importantly, Magic Town is the first location with additional residential lots, which can be earned through gameplay. Experienced magic Sims will be able to move into one of three brand new residential lots in the exclusive “Creepy Hollow” section of Magic Town.
