1. Community Interview with Will Wright [Update]

Recently EA revealed to fansites that a first expansion for The Sims Medieval is in the making: "The Sims Medieval: Dark Nights." To accompany the announcement, several sites were invited to have a joint interview Will Wright. We'll be posting the full interview soon, once we get the announcement. For now we are already allowed to post a few snippets of the interview:
Your latest project is Bar Karma. Have you ever experienced some bad karma in a bar?
*laughs* Well I don't really visit bars that often. But I did to go a bar once, where they had this specific kind of beer. Now I'm not a beer person myself, but a friend told me that I had to try it. So I ordered one and went back to my friends. But before I made it to the table, someone bumps into me and... well let's just say that that was the first beer shower I ever had. But I'm not sure if that's a case of bad karma, or just clumsiness of that other person.
Have you ever considered a position as mayor, given the experience you have with that area, because of the SimCity games?
Well that's a good question. No I've never really aspired to be a mayor of a city. I guess my passion lies more with designing games that involve mayors, rather than actually being one.
If you were a Sim, wouldn’t you hate it that you had to take a shower so often to get your hygiene motive green?
*laughs* I think you have a point there. Sims do get to take a shower a lot don't they? I think that was one of the hard points in developing the game. We really needed to find a balance between annoying and fun in the motives.
[Update] As you may have guessed, this was an April Fool's joke. There is no interview with Will Wright: all of the above was made up. Did you fall for it?
2. Problems with nVidia drivers

Several fansites have reported that the latest update of
nVidia drivers causes problems with the Sims 3. The 191.07 version may cause the game to crash back to the desktop. If you experience the problem,
revert back to an older version of the drivers. Until then EA recommends to not update to this version, and wait for a new revision of the nVidia drivers to upgrade. More information is in a
forum thread.

In the past few weeks there have been several fan events in London and Manchester (UK), Utrecht (Netherlands) and São Paulo, Salvador and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). Quite a number of fan sites wrote one or even multiple previews, interviews and other articles about the Sims 3. We've collected a list of all articles we could find in random order. If you know of other recent articles by fan sites, feel free to tell us about them! Note that all the English translations are automatic translations from Google Translate. When an article doesn't have a specific link to an English translation, it will be in English or there's no text to translate (i.e. just pictures). Anyway, read on for the complete list!
[Update] We've added previews from SimOperations, SimsShine and Sims Universe since we first posted this.

We already
mentioned that lead producer of The Sims 2 FreeTime Bim Majekodunmi has been touring through Europe to show the game. Last Tuesday she visited Amsterdam, and The Sims Zone was there to listen to what she had to say about the upcoming expansion pack. Many other fansites have already posted their reports from events held earlier, elsewhere in Europe, and you can find a list with links below (thanks to
SnootySims). We also played the game a bit for ourselves, and are ready to give you details of what's coming to you next month. If you want to know more about genies and bottles, hobbies, lifetime aspirations and their benefits, and much more, check out
our preview of FreeTime, with exclusive screenshots!

6. Sims 3 Development Confirmed Again

We already reported that Sam Player has been
touring through Europe to show the Sims 2 Seasons to press and fansites. After the presentation in Spain he confirmed something about another game: The Sims 3. While there will be several more expansions for the Sims 2, the sequel is in development already. A release date has not yet been announced and is still far away. Earlier
confirmation in November last year already taught us that the game will not ship until EA's fiscal 2009, meaning somewhere in between 1 April 2008 and 31 March 2009. Even that timespan is still not much more than a guess, as there can always be unexpected delays. Thanks to
CapitalSims for picking up the news.

There are videos about Plant Sims, the second some outside activities including skating and fishing. Just before the release of the Sims 2 Pets, several fansites posted previews of the new expansion pack. First there are five French sites which posted information after an event in France earlier this month. All of them have pictures with the articles as well. The Italian
EdenStyle also posted a new movie of the game, from a visit at EA Italy where they were shown the game. There's also the Dutch fansite
SimsNetwerk which has posted a report based on an early experience with the game in July as well as the GamesConvention in August. An English version of the report will be published later. Click the links below for all the reports. Thanks to
SnootySims for the French links.
9. MaxoidSam Blog and Producer E-mail

The person carrying the Senior Producer title for Sims 2 PC Expansion Packs is - after Don Laabs, who covered the position for Pets - has changed again. Sam Player (MaxoidSam) has recently announced himself as the new senior producer. Don Laabs is, like Tim LeTourneau, moving on to another, still secret, project within the Sims Division (Maxis) at EA. Sam Player has been working at EA for various other games like the Tiger Woods PGA Tour franchise and From Russia With Love. MaxoidSam has introduced himself through his blog, in which he tells that in the future official downloads from the official site will be included in expansion packs and stuff packs. Hidden items from Glamour Life Stuff will also be made available as download on the
official site in a matter of weeks. Those downloads will be included in future expansion packs too.
In an e-mail sent to various fansites MaxoidSam tells about his tour through Europe, together with Hunter Howe for the PC team and Ben Bell and Charles Normann for the consoles. Scheduled time with fans from various countries, 1 hour everywhere, turned out to take almost twice as long in almost every case. A special anecdote about flights is also made. Read on for all the details from Sam, as you can find the full e-mail in the Read More part of this mail. The rest is in his
October blog.

A week ago Leipzig in Germany was completely filled with gamers from all over the world, who were visiting the GamesConvention held near that city. Several Sims fansites - mostly German - also attended the show, and have posted their previews and pictures of the Sims 2 Pets, which was playable on the floor. First of all there's the official
German site, which has posted a large
special with many pictures taken at the GamesConvention. Follow the links after each parahraph to find pictures. Congratulations to our affiliate
SimsZone and
SimTimes for winning EA Sims Awards, for being the largest German-speaking community and the best German coverage of Pets respectively. Both sites visited the GC as well, and you can check out both
SimsZone's coverage and
SimTimes' special. You can also find some more screenshots on their third and fourth page of the
screenshots index.
Furthermore, the Japanese gaming site
4Gamer.net has a
preview of the PC game with several screenshots of Create a Pet mode. They also have two movies, linked to between the rows of screenshots. Finally there are two more fansites:
TheSims.cz has a
preview from the GamesConvention, whereas the German
TheSims.de has only several
pictures of the expansion pack, in between official screenshots in their screenshot index.
