1213. Maxis gets New General Manager
Written on Tuesday 21 December 2004 at 15:36 by ChEeTaH - 1 comment.
When Maxis moved from Walnut Creek to Redwood City and Luc Barthelet left ealier this year, Neil Young became the new General Manager of Maxis. Neil is now moving on to EALA, Electronic Arts Playa Vista studio in California, where his responsibilities will include building "improved processes that ensure high quality games are built on workable schedules." This is reported by IGN (thanks to WorldSims for the link).

We've been confirmed that the new General Manager of Maxis will be Nick Earl. Nick joined EA in 2001, as Chief Operating Officer at EA's Redwood Shores studio in Redwood City, California. He became General Manager of that studio in 2002, and now also of Maxis. Before working at EA, Earl worked for Eidos as Vice President of Product Development, and before that he worked at 3DO for six years. For more information about him, see his biography at the Redwood Shores site, under "About", and then "Meet the Execs".

1214. HomeCrafter Plus Officially Announced [Update]
Written on Tuesday 21 December 2004 at 00:22 by ChEeTaH - 4 comments.
Tim LeTourneau, one of the producers over at Maxis, has confirmed that "The Sims 2 HomeCrafter Plus" will be released tomorrow on the official site. The tool will allow you to customize walls, floors and ground textures. Tim has confirmed this through a community mailing, which you can read in the "Read more" part of this post. He also included some screenshots of the tool, which you can check out before the program is released tomorrow. Of course, if by tomorrow you have any floors, walls or ground textures to submit to us, feel free to do so and they'll be added in our files database! Click the thumbnails of the screenshots below to see them in large, read on for Tim's words, and/or wait patiently until tomorrow.

[Update 21 December, 14:00] While many people are waiting for the tool, Maxis has placed an FAQ online on the official site. Head over to the HomeCrafter Plus FAQ for more information. The questions of the FAQ have been placed in our knowledge base as well. If you have any HomeCrafter Plus specific questions, feel free to post them - or answer others - in the new HomeCrafter Plus Category.

1215. Exchange Upgraded
Written on Sunday 19 December 2004 at 15:49 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
The official exchange has undergone a minor upgrade. The community has been "hacking" the game a lot since its release, and custom hacks and objects have been released on fansites and forums quite a lot. However, lots and sims using such hacks uploaded to the exchange were packed with such hacks, even if you don't want them. Maxis has now changed the exchange so if any custom hacks not made by Maxis are included, a little warning icon is displayed with the details of the item. On the details page of the package, which lists all the custom content that's included, the CRC and default filename is included in the list. This makes it easier for you to find the hacks and delete them from your Downloads folder. For more about this, see the hack help page that Maxis made for this.

1216. TS2U Designer Diary
Written on Sunday 19 December 2004 at 15:44 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
As GameSpot did for the Sims 2, they've started a designer diary for the Sims 2 University, the first expansion for the game. Charles London, a designer at Maxis, tells us Maxis is well in the development process of Unviersity. Although there are no new facts, it is another overview of what the pack will be about. Included are two brand new screenshots as well, which you can see below. You can see the logo vaguely if you look in the right-bottom corner of the shots too. If you want to read the designer diary, then click here.

1218. New Poll
Written on Friday 17 December 2004 at 00:30 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
A new poll has been sitting on the right for almost 24 hours already, but still we'd like to point it out to you. It's all about the rumoured HomeCrafter tool for the Sims 2. What do you think about that news? Let us know by voting in the poll either on the right, or on the latest poll page.

Last week we asked if Santa will bring you something Sims this year. 243 people voted, of which 42% said they already have everything Sims so they won't need anything else. Second are the 60 people (25%) who are hoping for the Sims 2. 15% Hopes they'll get the Urbz, and about 7% some other Sims game. Then there are 15 (6%) who said they don't celebrate christmas, and finally the remaining 5% who said "probably not." If you want to see the exact results, check out the results page.

1219. SimDay: Christmas Spirit is Rising
Written on Friday 17 December 2004 at 00:26 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
This week's SimDay has a lot of Christmas in it. But first, there's a little bit about the official site. Maxis has added polls again, and the first one is about amounts of objects. It also reveals that the Sims 2 University will ship with 130 new objects for your Sims to use. The other - and last - non-christmas thing is a preview of the first expansion pack by IGN. However, we've already told you about that one earlier this week.

With the holidays nearing us soon, Maxis has posted a few new things for you to get. The first 3 are a set of wallpapers. The three can be downloaded in four different sizes each to match your desktop resolution. They can be found in the wallpapers area in Get Cool Stuff. One other thing Maxis has made to get us in the holiday spirit, is a christmas tree your Sims can buy. If you download the tree and install it in your game, your Sims will be able to celebrate christmas as well. You can of course include Starrats' Santa to get him in the game as well.

1220. UrbzDay: Comic
Written on Friday 17 December 2004 at 00:13 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Just like the past few weeks, this week's Urbzday only consists of a comic. It's the second one by Jim Mahfood, who's done a comic for Skyline Beach before. This time he takes Jayde to Cozmo Street though, to join the Black Eyed Peas. It's the final of 10 comix which have come out the past weeks, and so it's not sure what the official site will be updated with next Urbzday - if at all. But there's no need to worry about that now - for now you can just read the comic. As said, that's all for the Urbz this week.
