61. Holiday Blow-out Started - Buying Guide from Maxis
Written on Tuesday 15 November 2005 at 16:37 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Today Maxis has started their holiday giveaway today. From today and throughout the holidays 12 downloads from the Holiday Party Pack will be published on the official site. Besides that other fun stuff will be released during the giveaway. By the looks of the calendar in the intro on the frontpage of the site, Maxis will give three items every week. The first this week is a "Classic Wreath", a decorational object for any family.

MaxoidKane has also sent a holiday buying guide, found in the Read More part of this newspost or on the buying guide page. In that guide, MaxoidKane also says the Holiday Edition of the Sims 2 won't be available in Europe and other territories, but the default game will be bundled with the Christmas Party Pack instead.

Written on Sunday 13 November 2005 at 15:16 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
The "Sims Played By" advertising campaign, the first Sims campaign by W+K (see earlier news), has been running for several weeks now, and new items keep appearing. Maxis has again released a few new campaign videos on the official site. Five videos (of which three are brand new) have been posted on the videos page, bringing the grand total of videos so far to 13. We've also received information that there are 20 videos in total (10 for the US and 10 for Europe). The videos are also projected on buildings in various American cities, multiple TV channels, and stories can also be found in magazines worldwide. Besides all that, a video in which players explain the basics of the game has been published. You can see the About The Sims 2 video as well. More stories can be found on the Sims Played By website.

Written on Sunday 13 November 2005 at 13:54 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Maxis has released a few new screens and two movies for the Sims 2 Holiday Party Pack (Christmas Party Pack in Europe). In one video you see a Christmas setting, whereas the other is on New Year's Eve - naturally with fireworks. You can see them on the holiday videos page on the official site. As the download links on that page are incorrect, we've mirrorred the videos on our server so you can also download them. Use the links below to get them (QuickTime required). Bigger versions of three new screens posted on the official site have been put at GameSpot. They're now also below (click the thumbnails to see the big versions).

64. The Sims 2 (Consoles) Reviews
Written on Wednesday 2 November 2005 at 16:22 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
With the Sims 2 being out for about a week, many sites have already posted their opinion about the game. They're not all very positive about the game. GameSpot in particular isn't very enthousiastic about the game, as it lacks a real story, and the new features are not much more than a novelty. Others, like IGN or GamePro are far more positive about the new gameplay elements. Below are links to all the reviews for the console version of the Sims 2 we've found so far. You'll also be able to find screenshots with some of the reviews. If you found another one, feel free to submit the link to us.

The official site had posted four videos already, now Maxis has added three new ones, and one which was posted on the campaign website earlier. Eight videos can now be downloaded from the videos page. Besides those, there are two other ones posted along with the eight, so ten in total, on the campaign's website, between the various stories.

Almost every video game has an intro video that you see when you load up the game. So does the Sims 2 on consoles, and that video has now been turned into a trailer as a little sneak peek for the upcoming title for the PS2, XBox and GameCube. It can be downloaded from the videos page on the official site. You'll need QuickTime to see the video.

67. New Campaign: How do you play?
Written on Monday 24 October 2005 at 00:43 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Last year we posted a series of articles about how you can play the Sims in various ways. Now EA has launched an advertising campaign for the Sims 2 on all platforms, entitled "How Do You Play?" On the Sims Played By website various videos, pictures and stories are told by Sims players from across the world. Under the Player Bios are the greatest Sims moments some fellow simmers had. Other than that the website has a basic "about" bit, telling what the game is all about. Four of the five videos that can be found between the stories are also posted on this page on the official site. More ads by other players are promised to be online soon.

68. The Sims 2 Producer Mail #4
Written on Thursday 20 October 2005 at 18:28 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
We've received another e-mail from producers Virginia McArthur and Scot Amos (both in a chat tonight), in which they talk about the Sims 2 on GBA, DS and Consoles. These games are all due for release next week, and reviews should start being written very soon. Europe has to wait a little longer to get the games. Virginia also mentions a few features of the GBA and DS again, saying she can't wait to hear what the fans think of it, whereas Scot does that for the console edition. Besides that he also mentions a video similar to the designer challenge published earlier this week, only this time they recorded one in which two Maxis team members had to build a house. When the video will appear online is not said. Included in the mail are a bunch of new screens, as well as the webmaster sneak peek video posted earlier. Read the entire mail in the read more part. 70. The Sims 2 (Consoles) Video Feature 2
Written on Monday 17 October 2005 at 16:44 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
In August there was a video feature in which Alex Hutchinson, Lead Designer for the Sims 2 on consoles, walked through the game. This time he's joined by Scot Amos, senior producer, and both compete in creating the coolest Sim possible using the tools in the new game. Alex makes an alien, whereas Scot prefers a female pirate. Altogether a lot of features of CAS are shown in less than four minutes. GameSpot has posted the video in their media section as "Video Feature 2".
