Some producers of the Sims 2 Pets, coming out for PC, Consoles and Handhelds next month, have been touring Europe again to show off the new Sims title to press and fans. The result are a couple of reports with screenshots and videos on various European sites. First of all the Spanish
CapitalSims has posted some screenshots and videos in their forums. From Italy comes a
report (in English) of the PC, Console and NDS versions of the game, including some videos, screenshots, and an interview with Sam Player and Ben Bell. In that they talk about the differences with Unleashed, Creating pets, the personality of animals, the Kibble of Life (which is like Elixir for pets), and that there won't be new Sims clothes. Also, contrary to earlier reports, it will not be possible to have pets at university, according to the interview. For more details read the
complete interview.
Another website with a couple of
videos made from a presentation is
Tecnosims. In Germany both
Cynamite and
PC Games posted screenshots of the PC expansion pack. Over at
Sims2Community somebody has also received a review version of the expansion pack, and so far there are two reports with a bunch of screenshots. Check out
part one and
part two for the links to all the screenshots.

That real-life artists make an appearance in the Sims is not a first. The Sims 2 Pets, the upcoming expansion pack and console games, will also feature several famous artists. Aly and AJ already made a
video earlier, but now EA has announced the names of others who participate in the new game. Besides Aly and AJ the soundtrack of the PC and console games will feature The Flaming Lips ("
Free Radicals"), Hot Chip (Consoles only, "
Colours" and "
So Glad to See You") and the Pussycat Dolls ("
Don't Cha"). The complete soundtrack consists of 26 songs by 24 bands, also from Italy, Finland, Norway, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. 4 Of the songs appear only on the console (PS2, GameCube) edition of the game, the rest is also in the PC expansion pack. The entire list of songs can be found in the
press release, which quotes the Pussycat Dolls about their Simlish recording experience, as well as on
GameSpot which quotes the Flaming Lips front man Wayne Coyne. Of course all songs have been re-recorded in Simlish.

The French website
JeuxVideo visited the GamesConvention in Leipzig, Germany last month. They've published two exclusive gameplay videos of the Sims 2 Pets for PC and PS2, both made at the GamesConvention. You can watch the
PC video or the
PS2 video, both of which are best played with Flash 8. If you have an earlier Flash version, clicking the "
ce lien" link below the warning will still allow you to see the video. Downloading them is also possible, through the "Télécharger la Vidéo" link on the side of the page.
34. GameSpot Previews Pets on PC - Movies and Screenshots

We already reported about
GameSpy's report about The Sims 2 Pets for PC, the upcoming expansion pack, last week. But
GameSpot also published a preview of the expansion last week, along with a host of screenshots and videos. The
preview describes the Create a Pet mode, as well as their scratching or chewing behaviour. Their moods are briefly mentioned, and that it affects their performance at work. GameSpot concludes that it's interesting how it will turn out in the end, since time is a limited resource in the game, and taking care of a pet requires that important resource. After reading the
preview, you can also check out the 14 new
screenshots or the 3 new "Gameplay"
movies, all posted 29 August 2006. You can also find the new screenshots below. Click the thumbnails for full versions.

Since 1982 there have been annual
Golden Joystick awards, which is a ceremony for the video games industry, during which games and developers or publishers get awards for the results they've made. This year the ceremony will be held at 27 October in London, UK, and
public voting is now possible. Maxis has two nominations on the list, of which the Sims 2 Nightlife, the second expansion pack is one for the best PC game of the past year. Will Wright's upcoming creation, Spore, is nominated for "One to Watch 2007." Finally Electronic Arts has another nomination in its hands: EA Games is nominated to become Publisher of the Year. These 24th Golden Joystick awards nominated games released between 1 August 2005 and 31 July 2006. The show will be broadcasted live on
ComputerAndVideoGames.com, which also presents the entire show.

Occasionally an artist uses the Sims to create something for an art exhibition. Katherine Isbister and Rainey Straus created a project in San Jose, by installing a surveillance camera in the Fairmont Hotel near the Fairmont Plaza in downtown San Jose, California. The people filmed with that camera have been turned into Sims using the Sims 2, and the source video has been recreated using the Sims avatars of the passersby. The SIMVeillance project was first shown at the
ZeroOne Festival in San Jose, two weeks ago. The two screens showing the original and animated videos can be watched until 26 November in the San Jose Museum of Art. More details are at the
SIMWorks website, which also has a
preview video of the project. Rensselaer Campus News also has a
story about the art, and even more can be found in a
Mercury News article.

Just like several bands did for Open for Business, the upcoming Sims game The Sims 2 Pets (expansion pack on PC) will feature real-life artists who recorded one of their songs in Simlish. Aly and AJ have performed "Chemicals React," which can be found on the Deluxe Edition of Into the Rush, in Simlish. The song will appear in the PC, PlayStation 2, GameCube and PSP versions of the game - the DS and GBA editions will not feature it. The Deluxe Edition of Into the Rush is now available in stores with an extra bonus dvd, which includes the full video of the song. Yahoo! Music will host the world premiere of the complete Simlish Aly & AJ video on August 22nd, but so far a trailer of it has been published on the
official site. The press release announcing the collaboration between EA and Aly and AJ is found together with the trailer on a special
Aly and AJ page.
38. Pets Preview (PC, Console) and Video (PC) at GameSpot

Just like
IGN, gaming site
GameSpot has covered the Sims 2 Pets. Rather than writing several different previews though, there's just one preview which covers the PC and Console editions, and the differences between them. One of them is in the Create a Pet. Where the PC version sticks to collars for pet accessories, pets on the consoles can also have hats, sweaters, hoodies and tiny shoes. When it comes to living with the pets, you can train them to be good, or destructive, depending on when you scold or praise them. Pets can also be traded between neighbors, or you can adopt one from the animal shelter. You can also make dogs and cats have careers, to have them bring in some money. Exclusive to the console edition is the downtown area where you can purchase items for your pets, and meet other pet owners. The
preview is one page in size.
Besides that, GameSpot has posted a slightly different trailer of the PC version. This video shows a few extended scenes from the
official trailer. On the GameSpot
Trailers page, watch or download "
Official Movie 1" to see it.

Earlier this month EA held its annual Studio Showcase event (previously
Hot Summer Nights and
Camp EA), where they showcased the latest titles of the upcoming year. One of the games that EA showed was the Sims 2 Pets.
CNet News was one of the websites to attend the event, and they've published a video interview with Robin Hunicke, developer on the Sims 2 Pets. She talks about why she joined EA's Sims Division, the difference between expansions and stuff packs, and of course about pets. She says how you have to train pets to become your Sims' companions. She also says how, like children in the game, pets offer the protection of being taken away rather than dying when you don't treat them well. The interview is almost three minutes long, and contains some gameplay footage as well as some from the Studio Showcase event itself. See
the interview for yourself for more details.

Following
rumours of only a few days ago that the second Stuff pack for the Sims 2 would be called "
Glamour Life," Maxis has confirmed that to be a fact, by revealing details of the pack on the
official site. A
product page has been created, on which you can find 17 screenshots, 33 item renders, 2 videos and the system requirements. All of that is accompanied with the following description of the pack:
"Your Sims can now indulge in a glamorous life with this collection of luxurious furniture, fashionable clothing, and extravagant décor items. Create lavish homes furnished with the finest modern bedroom, living room, and dining room sets. Turn heads in the neighborhood as your Sims show off elegant gowns, red carpet formalwear, and cool casual styles at their next big soirée. Your Sims will live the high life with 60 new items including pop-art paintings, sectional sofas, a high-end stereo, fur coats, and more!"
As with the Family Fun pack, Glamour Life will contain about 60 items (objects, clothing, etc), of which roughly half can already be seen through the image renders. A release date has not yet been given, although the intro flash on the official site mentions August. Whether earlier
rumours saying mid-August or else late August are true has not yet been confirmed. The price of the pack will probably be similar to that of Family Fun Stuff: around $20/£10. Availability through
EA Downloader has also not yet been confirmed. You can find all screenshots (including some
earlier ones, in higher quality, as well as one featuring the logo) and all item renders in the Read More part, or on the official
screenshots respectively
renders pages. You can also check out the two
videos showing the features and the
system requirements. We'll keep you updated with the latest about this stuff pack as soon as the news comes in.
