21. Pets Preview (PC, Console) and Video (PC) at GameSpot

Just like
IGN, gaming site
GameSpot has covered the Sims 2 Pets. Rather than writing several different previews though, there's just one preview which covers the PC and Console editions, and the differences between them. One of them is in the Create a Pet. Where the PC version sticks to collars for pet accessories, pets on the consoles can also have hats, sweaters, hoodies and tiny shoes. When it comes to living with the pets, you can train them to be good, or destructive, depending on when you scold or praise them. Pets can also be traded between neighbors, or you can adopt one from the animal shelter. You can also make dogs and cats have careers, to have them bring in some money. Exclusive to the console edition is the downtown area where you can purchase items for your pets, and meet other pet owners. The
preview is one page in size.
Besides that, GameSpot has posted a slightly different trailer of the PC version. This video shows a few extended scenes from the
official trailer. On the GameSpot
Trailers page, watch or download "
Official Movie 1" to see it.
22. Survey Revealed EP ideas

Last week the official site briefly had a survey online, most of which was about the last expansion pack, Open for Business. The first half of the questions was about how you heard about OfB, what you like most about it, etc., but after that a couple of possible expansion pack concepts where given. Whether Maxis is planning to make one of these, or perhaps already making one, is unsure, but it's very well possible that one of the ideas will actually be made into an official expansion pack. Of course pets are mentioned again, as well as the returning vacation idea which has appeared in previous surveys as well, albeit a little different, and this time mentioning weather as well. Other ideas are about taking Sims back in time, a new hospital in town, expanding on the youth years of the Sims, seasons (including neighborhood changes and weather), and castaway Sims on a tropical island. Finally there's also a somewhat different idea, which is much like an adventure game as seen on handhelds before: something strange has happened in the neighborhood, and by socialising you need to figure out details of the puzzle to solve the mystery.
Besides the concepts, several new features were given of which a couple could be picked as favourite which should appear in a future expansion pack for the Sims 2. Plans for the Next Generation consoles - XBox 360, Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii (known as Revolution earlier) - also seem to exist, as one question asked about interest in a game on one of those consoles. So far no details of new console games have been announced though. The eight expansion concepts and 27 features are all in the read more bit of this newspost.

Many people use The Sims 2 to tell stories. This can be done through photo albums, but also with movies. The annual
DC Independent Film Festival has received 1,200 submissions for films to be featured. The festival showed a total of 110 movies, of which 3 were made by fans of the Sims 2, with the game.
April Hoffman ("
The Awakening Episode 1"),
André Lopion ("
My and Myself") and
Michelle Pettit-Mee and Kheri Batal ("
A Different Song") were awarded by EA Games, which gave each of them the Open for Business expansion pack. Five other directors with movies selected for the festival were given The Sims 2 as well, "
to encourage them create their next movie in the Sims world." You can find the three Sims 2 movies on the individual fansites. Also see the official site's

The Family Fun Stuff pack was
revealed with the release of Open for Business, and
rumours had been going around for even longer. Although Maxis has kept the pack fairly quiet until now, they have unleashed it today with 25 screenshots (three of which not posted on the official site, which has 1 near-duplicate), 42 renders of objects, 2 movies, a packshot and logo, title image, the little advert on the left, and a release date of 13 April. The pack comes with 60 new items, but none of them seem to be completely new objects, providing new gameplay. The items already exist in the base game, just in a different shape and colour - some of them do provide new meshes. There are many decorational items, a bunch of outfits, and some redesigns of beds, wardrobes and the like. The pack will be available in stores and online (according to MaxisShannon in the Open for Business
chat held Thursday). All the graphics can be found in the remainder of this newspost, for the movies visit the official
videos page. More information is on the pack's
About page.

27. OfB Designer Walkthrough Video

Maxis has created a new walkthrough video for the Sims 2 Open for Business. This time Hunter Howe takes you through the new expansion pack in over 7 minutes time. He shows a toy store, which has a crafting room to start with. A Sim with a gold talent badge for toy making allows him to create all kinds of toys, customizing them slightly. Uploading the lot to the exchange will include the customised objects in the download, so whoever downloads a lot gets your objects in it. You can also put the objects or anything else from the catalog for sale, setting the price as well.
Next Hunter shows a store that's opening up, and the first customer of the day browsing around a bit. Andy brings the buy bar of the customer down a bit, by failing miserably at trying to sell something. Sims looking around confused need some help from your salesmen. Good salesmen, with the golden sales talent badge, are able to use the dazzle interaction, making customers enthousiastic and buy stuff they might not really need. The customers buying stuff are likely to give you some loyalty stars which rank up your business. You can also buy perks with them, and Hunter shows the motivational speech interaction, which is one of the perks. He also shows setting the price for all items that are for sale. Still Andy is failing to succeed, so he's fired.
Finally, on another lot, Hunter shows some of the new build and buy mode features. From mascots to elevators, the salon chair and crafted toys. You can also spot some awnings and new roof shapes along the way. You can download the movie from the official
movies page, or from the Open for Business
trailers page, where it's named "
Official Movie 1."

29. Unofficial Expansion: Sims 2 Spooked!

Together with Maxis, several students of the
University of Southern California have developed a mini-expansion pack for the Sims 2. This is reported by
SimsOvernight. Carrying the title "
Sims 2 Spooked" the pack contains 20 objects, designed and developed by students, from a Possessed Coffee Pot to a "
Frank – the Do It Yourself Monster Kit". The students were given Edith, the tool Maxis uses to create objects and more for the Sims 2, as well as some other tools, to create the expansion pack. The group of 22 was also advised by several Maxoids during the development. It seems that the pack was already finished early last year, but it's only been discovered by Sims fans recently.
SnootySims also reports that, coincidentally or not, the idea of the expansion pack was mentioned in an early
survey that showed up on the official site last year.
For more information about this mini expansion, see the
news page, and their
project page where you can find movies, a guide to Edith (with complete
wiki about the tool), and a original gameplay concepts and ideas, as well as a full handbook explaining the different items in the game. Whether the expansion pack is available to the public is not clear at this moment.
30. Open for Business Screenshots and Movie

The official
announcement earlier today marked the start of the usual flood of screenshots, movies and information about the new Sims 2 expansion pack, Open for Business. A few have been released before, but now Maxis has also released four screenshots and a video on the
official site. The trailer shows the key features of everything that's possible, including many of the new objects. Between them is also a robot that looks like a remake of Servo, the robot-maid that was introduced in Livin' Large for the Sims 1 - we'll most likely find out more about that soon enough. In the background is a new remix of the Sims 2 tune, but naturally it's a matter of waiting to find out if that will be in the game too. There's a lot more to see in the movies, especially when it comes to all the objects.
Watch it to see for yourself. Also check out the screenshots by clicking the thumbnails below.
