111. IGN: Sims 2 Best of E3
Written on Saturday 22 May 2004 at 19:44 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
IGN has awarded The Sims 2 with the award for "Best PC Simulation of the Show" on the E3. Runner-up was the game The Movies, by Lionhead Studios (Peter Molyneux). "After seeing it working at the show, we're believers," says IGN. The URBZ hasn't won any awards, though it did become runner-up for "Best Strategy Game" for the PlayStation 2. For a bit about the Sims 2's award, read page 3 of the awards list. Another note for IGN Insiders: you can now download the Will Wright LiveWire interview, with video, from IGN Insider.

112. New Poll: How was your E3?
Written on Thursday 20 May 2004 at 02:00 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
A new week, a new poll. The E3 is over, and there have been many updates with new screens, movies, interviews and info about The Sims 2, The URBZ and Bustin' Out on the N-Gage. If you followed the news on this site, we're wondering how much you liked all the new content. Tell us whether you followed the E3 news, and what you thought of it, by voting on the right or at the latest poll page. As for last week, we asked you about the Body Shop. With 28% loving it, and 42% of the 167 people who voted saying they think it's a cool tool to play with until the game is out, it seems to be quite a success. 21% Didn't have a clue what it was all about, while 7% doesn't really like the tool, and just 2% absolutely hates it. You can get a nice list of the results on the results page.

113. Official Sims 2 UK site Launched
Written on Tuesday 11 May 2004 at 21:09 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
EA UK has just launched the official UK site for The Sims 2. It's already quite full of content: you can find info, wallpapers (at the bottom), screenshots and the E3 trailer (QuickTime required, 24 Mb, it's on the "mystery" page), already posted about last Saturday. For discussions, there are also some brand new forums. They're no different from the original forums on the Sims 1 UK site though. You can also download a couple of official movies and media on the download page. Navigation is done using a rotating wheel on the right. Unfortunately the site works with Internet Explorer only (and browsers using the IE engine), not with Mozilla FireFox or other browsers. You can find it at TheSims2.uk.ea.com.

114. Lucy Bradshaw Video Interview [Update]
Written on Tuesday 11 May 2004 at 04:19 by ChEeTaH - 4 comments.
As she already told us, Lucy has been interviewed by IGN. The interview is now available for IGN Insiders. It's a huge download, 300 Mb in Quicktime or almost 150 Mb in Windows Media format, but I've downloaded it. It doesn't give much real new information about the game, though the in-game clips from it are nice to see. You can see some snapshots I've created at the end of this article (in the Read more bit). Most interesting from those videos is that it looks like Maxis has included some Superstar elements, as we can see a lady Sim on the red carpet, with body guards and flashing cameras around her. Other images show the building of the homes, but also Sims jumping on couches, kissing and wrestling. We can also see the creation of a Sim (in-game) for a bit. For more information about what Lucy and Steve Butts, Editor-in-Chief of IGN, had to discuss in those 20 minutes, read on... It's a nice summary of what The Sims 2 is all about again.

[Update 16:20] Some more pictures from the movie, not taken by me, can be found at Snooty Sims. They're posted along with some other shots from recently published movies. You can see them right here.

115. The Sims 2 Designer Diary #7
Written on Friday 30 April 2004 at 23:24 by Stash - 0 comments.
GameSpot has posted part 7 of the Designer Diary of The Sims 2. This time Lucy Bradshaw focuses on making movies in The Sims 2. The article has some interesting information and sheds some light on the history of The Sims photo albums, and the idea of adding movie making to The Sims 2. To read the Designer Diary, click here. The article also comes with a new video that shows off the movie making feature, which is very cool.

116. 10 New Sims 2 Screens
Written on Wednesday 28 April 2004 at 00:19 by ChEeTaH - 4 comments.
EA has revealed 10 new screenshots of The Sims 2, along with a couple of old ones (which I won't put back here again). They contain some interesting stuff, like kissing Sims, jumping Sims, swimming Sims, Sims working out, Sims training for combat, Sims getting ready for dinner at the TV, and even a Sim being abducted by aliens. You may have seen a few earlier in either lower quality or in a movie, but they're posted new as (high quality) screenshot. You can view them all by clicking the thumbnails below.

118. SimDay
Written on Thursday 5 February 2004 at 11:32 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
This week's SimDay is quite nice again. To start off with Bustin' Out news: Maxis has posted three new movies which tell about a Sims' worst week. Check out Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at this page. They're all about 2 Mb in low res, or 9 Mb when you want the high quality versions. QuickTime Required. When it comes to The Sims, Maxis has posted a link to a recent thread of the day in their BBS. If you want to know how The Sims changed other players' lifes, or if you want to share your own story, go here. Maxis has also launched a new contest again, the "Great Dates and Dates to Hate" contest. If you can post your story about the lousiest or best date ever - real or fictious - in a family album at the exchange of the official site. You have until 14 February, Valentine's day, to submit your entry. As usual it's open to "residents of the 50 United States (except Colorado) and the District of Columbia and Canada, excluding Quebec." If you want to know what you have to do exactly, follow click here. For The Sims 2 news this SimDay, read on (click "Read More" if necessary).

119. Chat Transcript
Written on Friday 23 January 2004 at 16:50 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Last night there was the chat with the famous Luc Barthelet about The Sims 2. There were over 500 people in the chat, and due to some technical problems the chat lasted 15 minutes longer than usual too. Unfortunately a lot of people were unable to enter the chat after a while, but over 400 people remained there asking a lot of questions. Even though it was asked a lot, Maxis refrained from answering any questions about release dates of CaSIE or The Sims 2. The remaining questions did leave quite some nice info, of which most was already known or could be guessed. Here are a few of the answers:
"reanimation: will there be bigger resoltuions in the sims 2 ...like 1280x1024"
"Luc Barthelet: Yes"
"bookworm28: Can old people die at different times? Because it would be kind of annoying if all your grandparents died exactly at the same time."
"LB: I agree"
"keymasterkel: In CAS, can you create a "child" (i.e. customize a sim how you want it) and then add the parent AFTER that sim is created? Or must you always create parents first in CAS mode?"
"LB: If you want to use the DNA you need to create the parent first. if you do it the other way they are adopted."
"MaSMeL: in cameraman mode, can a sim still interact with objects or is it purely for cinematics?"
"LB: it is meant to be purely cinematic. but you can switch back and force using tab"
"simsmaster88: Will there be like a meter that tells you how far along in each stage each sim is?"
"LB: yes"
"Godziller101: Can you make something like home movies, that your sims can watch on their tv? Using the cameraman mode, of course."
"LB: I like that idea. The TVs will play any AVI. so you can make movies for your sims"
"zockedi: Will a jealous sim who comes to a wedding beable to cause a scene and interrrupt the wedding? Can a sim get cold feet and change his mind after getting engaged?"
"LB: YES"
"simmy2sky: What else can be done with the couch besides nap and sit, come on Luc tell US!!"
"LB: make out?"
"zockedi: If you create identical twins and give them the same personalities, but give them totally different life experiences, will their personalities end up dramatically different?"
"LB: yes. they will have lifes and that will drive them to be different sims"
Some hidden info, which was sent in a private message and has been published at the BBS (this thread), is that Maxis is working on an exchange which will work for Europeans as well. Of course all this info is only a small selection, and there's a whole lot more to be read. You can do so by clicking here. On another note: many people from Europe have been asking for a more convenient time for the chats, as currently they're being held at midnight. Maxis has not yet responded to that though, but of course we'll keep you updated about all the official chats.

120. Sims 2 Camera Info
Written on Sunday 11 January 2004 at 22:13 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Hot from the press, we just received some more in-depth details of the camera options and camera mode in The Sims 2 from Maxis. The "Cameraman mode" is brand new, and you have complete freedom when it comes to rotating, zooming and scrolling the camera around through the 3D area. You can also move around as if you were a Sim, and really be in the middle of all the action. It's more detailed than ever, and you have more freedom than ever. There will also be a Movie Recorder. Using that, you can create your own soap opera, sitcom, or whatever you like. All you have to do is pressing "v" in-game to start creating an AVI video. You can use a complete video control panel, which will allow you to optimize the settings for the movie recorder. That way, you can get the best quality footage from your Sims' homes. Although not explicitely mentioned, the earlier video shows how well these two features can be combined and how they result in something never seen before with The Sims. These features make story-telling a lot better in The Sims 2. Of course, the photo album options are also still available, but those too have been much improved. For an example of that, go to this previous news post.
