Hunter Howe, one of the designers for the Sims 2 Seasons, is starring in a new walkthrough video for the upcoming expansion pack. During 7:30 minutes he talks through the four seasons of the year, starting with spring. The first thing you'll see is rain. It'll rain more in spring and in winter it'll snow more, so it depends on the season how often certain weather appears. Next he shows how to give a gift, one of the small new family activities. Catching butterflies is another of those spring activities, just like fishing. Gardening is one of the biggest things in the pack, and Howe shows orchard trees as well as a greenhouse. The latter are slightly more intensive to tend, but more rewarding. Planting some eggplants is explained. It depends on the season when you can harvest the food. Sims with a good gardening talent may be able to talk to and communicate with plants, making them grow better. Next up is summer, which is all about having fun. The pool upgrades are shown: the curves, shading and reflections, new pool games like Marco Polo, the slide and painting the walls and floors of the pool. Hunter also explains how seasons help in certain things: summer makes building relationships easier, during fall it's better to do skill building. In fall the leafs have fallen off the trees, and it's time to do some harvesting. Sims will have warmer clothes to make sure they don't get cold during this season. The lighting in the pack is enhanced so each season gets its own look. Back to harvesting, the orchard trees will generally have food in fall by themselves, but tending them generates better fruit. Good food can have positive side-effects, like curing colds. Finally Hunter goes to winter, showing the new cursor which uncovers anything under the snow. There are some new activities using the snow, like building a snowman, creating a snow angel or throwing snowballs. The last one is a group activity to which an entire community lot can join in. Hunter also explains that if you like you can create a neighborhood that is in winter all year round. At the end of the movie Hunter shows the wishing well, a new reward object, which can have very surprising side-effects if you wish too often. He doesn't go into any details though.

Recently we already
reported about the Happy Holiday Stuff pack, which has now made a more in-depth appearance at the
official site. The pack will be released in three editions. The first one is the basis for the two others as well: the
Happy Holiday Stuff pack. This pack contains 60 holiday themed items, of which 20 are new and 40 were already in last year's Holiday (Christmas) Party Pack. To compensate a little for those who bought last year's pack, a special
Happy Holiday Mini Pack will be made available through
EA Downloader only - it won't be available in stores. This mini pack contains just the 20 new items against a reduced price. Finally there's the Sims 2
Holiday Edition, which bundles the base game and Happy Holiday Stuff. This game will be available solely in stores, EA Downloader will not have the bundle. The stuff pack will be available in both ways, with an additional bonus if you pre-order online. You'll get a Blizzardous Biosphere object as download when you
order the pack from EA's Store. You can also get a trailer for the
Holiday Edition or the
Stuff pack. Renders of the items, screenshots and some small artwork can all be found in the remainder of this news post. See the official site's
holiday page for more details.

19. GameSpot Previews Pets on PC - Movies and Screenshots

We already reported about
GameSpy's report about The Sims 2 Pets for PC, the upcoming expansion pack, last week. But
GameSpot also published a preview of the expansion last week, along with a host of screenshots and videos. The
preview describes the Create a Pet mode, as well as their scratching or chewing behaviour. Their moods are briefly mentioned, and that it affects their performance at work. GameSpot concludes that it's interesting how it will turn out in the end, since time is a limited resource in the game, and taking care of a pet requires that important resource. After reading the
preview, you can also check out the 14 new
screenshots or the 3 new "Gameplay"
movies, all posted 29 August 2006. You can also find the new screenshots below. Click the thumbnails for full versions.

A week ago Leipzig in Germany was completely filled with gamers from all over the world, who were visiting the GamesConvention held near that city. Several Sims fansites - mostly German - also attended the show, and have posted their previews and pictures of the Sims 2 Pets, which was playable on the floor. First of all there's the official
German site, which has posted a large
special with many pictures taken at the GamesConvention. Follow the links after each parahraph to find pictures. Congratulations to our affiliate
SimsZone and
SimTimes for winning EA Sims Awards, for being the largest German-speaking community and the best German coverage of Pets respectively. Both sites visited the GC as well, and you can check out both
SimsZone's coverage and
SimTimes' special. You can also find some more screenshots on their third and fourth page of the
screenshots index.
Furthermore, the Japanese gaming site
4Gamer.net has a
preview of the PC game with several screenshots of Create a Pet mode. They also have two movies, linked to between the rows of screenshots. Finally there are two more fansites:
TheSims.cz has a
preview from the GamesConvention, whereas the German
TheSims.de has only several
pictures of the expansion pack, in between official screenshots in their screenshot index.
