MySims Interviews and Preview
Several new interviews with Tim LeTourneau, executive producer of MySims for Wii, have appeared recently. Various sites have interviewed the man on both video and text. Read on for more details from the interviews, as well as a preview of the game.

First there are two videos. The first is from GameTrailers. Tim tells that the game has a new look and a different style of gameplay. They took Sims veterans who are big Nintendo fans from throughout the Sims studio, and started creating MySims. Although it may look different, it is still very much a Sims game. LeTourneau also briefly goes through helping the townspeople, building items, homes and business, and the creativity involved with it. One of the goals EA is trying to achieve is that the town you create allows you to express your individuality. The full video has more details. The second video interview is from IGN Wii, and similar to the GameTrailers one Tim goes through various parts of the game. He starts off in Create a Sim, in which you can pick attributes for your Sim or just hit the random button to have a random Sim turn up. As any Sims game MySims has lots of furniture, as you can see when you start in your house. Tim also talks about how you need to encourage new Sims to move into the town, and then help them build their homes, furniture as well as their businesses. To accomplish that you also need to socialise with the Sims, as in any other Sims game. As you build the entire town yourself, each town will be unique. The tools are easy to use, and with the Wii being a family system, EA hopes that kids will ask their parents to also make a Sim, a building, some furniture, or anything else that can be created in the game. IGN's video page lets you view or download the video, which of course (like the GameTrailers one) contains plenty of in-game material.

In another text interview with IGN, LeTourneau says that when they designed the Sims for MySims, they didn't know about the Mii's. They're different, although you would say both are designed for the Nintendo platform. The core of the game is all about building things, and when designing the game the team thought about how the controller could really improve the Sims experience, rather than just being another gimmick. In the MySims world there's a lot of picking up, grabbing, placing, stacking, etcetera. Concerning WiFi options Tim says they haven't announced their plans yet, though they want to make full use of the Wii system. Still, the Sims is personal experience that doesn't need multiplayer - it's more about sharing what you've created. In a visual standpoint the game is supposed to amaze people, in that the entire world is created by themselves and not premade. Tim also explains the forest level, where you go to gain essences. Regarding the DS version, which is being developed in Japan, Tim responds that they wanted to make a Sims game that works in Asia and specifically Japan as well, besides the US and Europe. This has not worked with the realistic Sims so far, but MySims may change that. Both the DS and Wii games' development were started simultaneously, but there's no information regarding connectivity between the two yet. Read the full interview for details. Finally we have IGN's partner GameSpy which has published a preview of a very early version of the game. The interface hadn't been finalized yet, as they were reminded several times during the press event. The preview discusses four elements of the game: the creation of Sims, buildings, furniture, and all of that in action during a demo of the game. You can create pretty much any Sim you like. Building a house is also easy and streamlined, by just using the C-stick to drag and drop squares, rectangles and circles. GameSpy created a LA-style house, and although chimneys wouldn't work they were pretty pleased with the result. Creating furniture is not as easy, and getting the layers to properly fit was a bit troublesome, but considering the early stages of the game that will probably still be fixed. During the demo the social aspect of the game was shown, for example the essences received through friendship. GameSpy is positive about the game, and will have more details later in the year. The complete preview (2 pages) has all the information.
