Sims 2 System Requirements Minor Change
There recently have been several changes in the system requirements of the Sims 2. There has been one more minor change, which affects owners of a Radeon 7000 graphics card. Because that card has been put back to require a 2.0 Ghz processor. The Radeon 7200 and Radeon 7500 are still listed as T&L cards, and will run with 'just' 800 Mhz. You can find the complete system requirements on the system specs page, or in our knowledge base.

Will I be able to have the sims 2 with a '98 Gateway? Without downloading a whole bunch of stuff?

Depends on the specifications of your computer - there are several tools which will help you find that out (I believe www.thesimsworkshop.com has a tool to check the Sims 2 requirements, but it's still using the old requirements). You can also search through forums etc to find out how you can look up your system specs.

Anyway, if your computer was bought in 1998 and hasn't been upgraded since, I very much doubt it'll run the Sims 2.
