Knowledge - Question
I had Unleashed, reinstalled everything for HotDate, copied UserData dir to the new game, but the Downtown was dead empty for my neighbourhood! The extra neighbourhoods that came w/ the game seemed normal. How do I fix the Downtown for my own neighbourhd?

I had that happen when I first bought Hot Date, unfortunately I don't know how to fix the problem as it seemed to resolve itself. I can tell you that since that problem I installed the Hot Date patch, and installed the Unleashed, Vacation, and Makin' Magic exp. packs so the solution might be somewhere in one of those. Sorry I can't be of much more help :(

Go to C:\Program Files\Maxis\The Sims (or wherever you installed The Sims to). Then open the TemplateDowntown folder, and copy all files to the UserData#\Houses folder (where # is the number of the neighborhood, or just "UserData" for hood 1). You can do the same for the other areas, just copy the files from the proper template folder.
