My Sim tried to enchant his pink flamingo but instead it caught on fire. Why did this happen?

The spell has backfired, just make your sims feel better and try again.

But right before he enchanted the flamingo he enchanted a garden gnome and that worked! [Yeah, he had five enchant spells and nothing to do. Does that ever happen to your wizard sims?]

It might have been caused by a non-wizard sim witnessing the spell. My sims never get visited by the "spell checker" if they do spells in front of muggles [sorry, I read harry potter]. They just have their spells backfire.
