My sim is a trendsetter, and whenever she gets new friends, the number of friends she needs to become talk of the town goes up. why?

Your Sim doesn't need just *any* friend; she needs those who are celebrities. To progress upwards as a star, you need to have star connections, and the higher up you go the more celebrity friends you will need. Check your star points. I find that sometimes the number of points rises or falls, according to how much the star friends themselves progress in the world of fame. (If any of them are your Sims, you might want to check up on them from time to time to make sure their ratings haven't fallen due to lack of activity in Studio Town!)

you probably have more than enough already, so the number is no longer how many she needs, it's how many she has. like before it might have said 'needs _ friends' but now it probably says '_ friends'.
