Knowledge - Question

I no this may not be anything to do with this catagory but, how do i delete connecting stairs? Holding down 'ctrl' doesn't seem to work. Is that the only way of deleteing them?

Actually a way to do it is by clicking on the hand tool, then you click on the stairs and press delete...and here you are no stairs in view
