When a sim dies (which none of mine have died yet), why does a grim reaper appear?
4 Answers
Because the Grim Reaper is a symbol of death. He is death itself.

He is the one organising the sim's removal to the death. When a sim dies, he pulls out a cellphone and dials, to organise it. Teen sims and older can plead with the Grim Reaper to reserrect the Sim if they have not died of old age. Just preparing you if you have a death on the Sims 2! ;)
