Yes, you can hire gardeners, nannies, and maids. Maids refuse to take trash out of a compactor and nannies aren't very watchful, though. In my experiance, that is.

I personally have never had a maid/nanny etc leave with or kidnapp my child. However I had to download a patch that made alot of things work better. You can get that patch at www.thesims2.com. The patch helps w/ the changing tables as well. Users notice that they can go downtown and purchase clothes for their family including the todlers, but there was no optoin of changing their outfits when u clicked on the changing table. the patch will make that feature available. It also makes it to wear no one leaves your lot holding your todler or baby (aka kidnapped). I find that hirring 2 nanies at a time when I have one or more baby or todler usually makes things easier. The maids, gardners, and bartenders etc are not usually what slows the game down, it's the car they arive in. School bus, work cars, repair man etc will cause the same slowing effect. If you want to avoid that, don't hire a maid or gardner. If you wnat someone to come and clean up after you now and then, I just hire a nanny using the (just for now) option. (you can only hire one if you have children or younger. Tiping them causes for better work performance, (my maid stays even longer).

You can also marry your employees, such as nanny, maid, or gardener. You don't employ the maildude, but yoiu can also marry him/her !!

You click on the Phone, select 'Service', and click on your choice. Some are a little expensive, though.
