You better believe it will, it will take up every single bit of that ram...But even if you had all the ram in the world, it would take it up. High level games use all of your computer resources. Its just that if you have more ram, it will run faster or you can have more programs running in your background. RAM is not Hard drive space. Unlike Hard drive space, you get your ram back when you shut off the game. Sims takes up 3 Gigs of hard drive as long as its installed on your computer, but it takes up your 256 MB of ram only when youre playing the game. When you stop playing the game, you get all that 256 MB RAM back to use for other programs. And believe me the game will be well worth the 50 bucks and I can almost promise that Urbz cannot live up to the Sims 2. If you have 256 MB of Ram...get out and get that game now.

You might see some performance problems but overall the game should work great.

I play it on 256 ram. It's not very realistic to have families above 4 people, because that slows the game. You can't have a lot of visitors over at the same time. Avoid glasses and complicated clothes meshes (big skirts and swinging hair). Kill all excess programmes with ctrl+alt+del before starting the game to free memory. Set the game to the lowest quality in every option you can find, and don't build large common lots - preferably, go to common lots at night when there's not many other sims around.
That way, the game will work just fine. Except the night-day toggle sometimes takes a minute or so for you to wait before it's done processing. Oh yeah and avoid putting lamps in your house. Even without lamps the rooms are lit at night, but then evenly, so it doesn't have to calculate the light sources.
Avoid putting a hot tub in your house - this will make visitors stick and slow the game.
