In The Sims 2 there won't be any pets from the start. There will be pets in an expansion pack though, and it's been said it will be the second where we can get pets.

The first EP will be something like Livin' Large which would include the best of every EP in TS1 but it's only a rumour.

In Sims 2, you can have fish. You may be able to have other animals, such as a guinea pig or a turtle, but I am only guessing. Actual pets, such as cats and dogs, will be in an expansion pack.

Do roaches count as pets? Because you can certainly have them. And they said they're not making EP's which are just newer versions of TS1'S EP's.
