In order to build your own hotel, firstly you need to place an empty community lot. Leaving sufficient space for the front desk, as you cannot place it when you are on a community lot, build your rooms and other amenities as you see fit.

Take your time, especially when it comes to building and other build mode items. These won't be able to be changed easily.

Once you are ready to declare it as a hotel, you need to enter the following cheat code.

Then you must save the game and exit to the community. Once you have done that, return to your new hotel and you will be now able to add the front desk. Your hotel is effectively complete. Save the game again and see if you can find someone to visit this hotel as part of their vacation.

If you find that your hotel needs more renovating, you will need to go through the following process.

Open up the lot and enter the following cheat code.

Following this, save the lot, return to the community and then reopen the lot. You will now be able to edit it. When you have completed the changes you require, enter the code that changes the lot zoning back to a hotel, save it and return to the community. Renovation work cannot be done if there are guests in the hotel, however.

As a quick addendum, creating your own camping grounds is the same. When you have pitched your tents and placed your other amenities, you will need to enter the new zoning cheat code.

Again, save this lot, return to the community and then reopen the lot. It is now a hotel-of-sorts ... just way way cheaper and with a character all of its own.
