A gardener does not have to do everything himself. Without sounding as though I should be on a TV gardening program, I cannot stress enough how important composting is. Therefore, the first purchase for any gardener should be a compost bin. At §150, it is a bargain. Compost is free and provides more nutrients to the soil.
If you want to make sure that your garden plots are watered at the proper time, Garden Spritzers © work as sprinklers and spray a designated area. The Model 90 has a 90 degree arc covering 4 squares (2x2), the Model 180 has a 180 degree arc of covering 8 squares (4x2) and the Model 360 sprays 16 squares all around it (4x4). These cost §90, §180 & §360 respectively.
If you want to reduce any insect infestation to a minimum and limit chances of your sims becoming green men, you need a Lovely Ladybug Loft © and this sells for §400. Sometimes, however, with the most persistent of infestations, the ladybugs will not be enough to overwhelm them.
If you want to grow your plants indoors but with access to direct sunlight, you need a greenhouse. These are not cheap and a segment of Green's Greenhouse Wall © costs §300 but is reduced to §225 if you are a member of the Garden Club. However, do not be that alarmed. Only 50% of a greenhouse wall has to be a Green's Greenhouse Wall. Greenhouse roofs are free but are only there for cosmetic purposes rather than having an actual effect, which is disappointing.
If you want to grow your plants indoors but without access to direct sunlight, you need a sunlamp. These are expensive and only cover a 3x3 area. Here we see a sunlamp being used by Jonah Midwinter as a house lamp in order to provide him with sunlight during the night.
You met them near the beginning of this review and in the same way you heard of "Torchwood" during the the second season of the new Doctor Who, you've heard of them every now and again during this review. It is time to look at them in more detail. The University secret society only required you to have befriended three of them. This requires that you have a garden that passes their examination.
They look for the quality of your growable fruit and vegetable trees and plots, the decorative qualities of your garden and any mess that is left around.
They do not like flamingos.
Everything has a score and if your garden scores 100 or more, you are allowed to become members of the Garden Club and have a 25% discount on garden supplies, which include compost, seeds, sprinklers and greenhouses.
Once you have become a Garden Club members, you can invite the Assessment Subcommittee around around again and again to assess their garden for cash rewards.
If, however, your garden scores 700 or more, which is no mean feat, you are awarded one very special item indeed.
A Wishing Well.
In fact, you can keep inviting the subcommittee around and you can in fact ended up stockpiling them. This has its advantages. If you use a wishing well just too much, your wishes can backfire.
The Midwinters now have a Wishing Well. Flora is the first one to try it and finds she can wish for Friendship, Romance or Money. She wishes for money, throws a coin down the well, there is a green glow and suddenly a bag of money drops at her feet. Once she gets the money, §1,000 is added to the Midwinter's coffers.
In our final part, we look at the new Careers, the new Collections, the new Cheat and tie up any loose ends before giving you our conclusion.
