Apparently, I have found that some information that I provided earlier in this review was wrong. The seasons in "daughter neighborhoods" such as University or Downtown are not the same as that in the "mother neighborhood". Personally, I prefer that it is like this.
Anyway, onto the concluding part of our review.
As I may have pointed out, "Maxis" has followed form with this expansion. New careers were introduced with the 1st and 5th expansions for TS1 and the same has been done with TS2.
There are six new careers, each with their own rewards and chance cards. I have not had the opportunity to try them all but here is what I have found so far.
Adventurer - If anything, I suppose it could be compared to the X-Treme career track from the original TS1. Some of the career titles are quite imaginative, I daresay the most imaginative and infamous being that of Dread Pirate. The career reward is an eerie statue that can be fun to look at but can boost random moods of those who are near it.
Education - This is an upgrade of the career track that was included with "Unleashed" for TS1. From Playground Monitor to Director of Education, a sim can work their way up the education ladder. Here you see Simone Midwinter as a playground monitor heading out to work. The reward object is a special bookcase from which you can study all subjects.
Gaming - This is a completely new career track and one that I quite like. The reward object is an ornate pinball machine that improves your fun but also pays out simoleons every minute that you play. The chance cards are quite imaginative and I can see this track being quite popular. Jonah Midwinter took this career track and we see him here in the outfit of a Real Time Strategiser.
Journalism - This is an upgrade of the career track that was included with "Living..." for TS1. The titles are different, though. You start as being a Yearbook Club Supervisor to becoming a Media Magnate. The reward object is an award statuette, which gives random motive boosts to those near it, not dissimilar to the Adventurer's statue reward.
Law - Finally your sims can aspire to be Alan Shore, Denny Crane, Ally McBeal or Perry Mason. From the lowliest File Clerk to becoming "The Law", this career puts you through most different angles of being a lawyer. The career reward is a podium, but different to the podium for the political career, it has the option of running a practice case, which adds to fun.
Music - This is an upgrade of the career track that was included with "Unleashed" for TS1. The job titles are quite different this time around, though. I quite liked lounge singer, although the blue outfit left a bit to be desired. Anyway, the reward object is a rock guitar which improves the skill. If you have University, your sim can perform with it. Otherwise, they can only practice.
There are Teen/Elder Jobs in these new career tracks, but they are just copies of the first three levels whereas in the original jobs, sometimes they had their own unique job titles such as water boy and glass scrubber. There is nothing original like that with these new careers.
Although I like the new careers that I have been able to try and look forward to trying out the others, from what I have seen so far, I do feel that more work could have been put into their outfits. Although in some jobs they appear to have new outfits, other work clothes are only a mixture of existing outfits. For example, Warhead Disarmer has a fireman's jacket and tank and a burglar beanie on and lawyers look like any existing businessman in a light blue dress or light brown suit, male and female respectively.
I cannot be too harsh in my criticisms of this expanion pack. Quite a lot of new material has come with it. All of the new B&B (Buy & Build) Mode items can be found in the Seasons collection.
The Country Collection is the primary one. As well as being a collection on its own, it has two sub-collections offshoots, being Country Bedroom and Country Kitchen. The furniture and floor and wall coverings are the type you would expect to have your 70yr old auntie to have their house decked out in. With ranch house doors and all of the associated paraphernalia, it is very well done as hopefully this image of the Viejo kitchen shows.
The Tiki Collection is naturally quite "Hawaiian" in feel and is well suited for a luau. With loungers and a beach bar quite suited to being by a pool, this is ideal furniture for a Summer party. Tiki was first seen in "House Party" (EP2) for TS1 and in form with an old icon from that day, it announces the return of the Hula Girl Lamp.
Apparently, The Sims Bonus Collection has supposedly been lurking since the Family Fun Stuff Pack but is now revealed and improved. It is a car-racing based collection. This includes a bed shaped like a race car, dressers shaped like tool chests and end tables shaped like stacked tires. Previously unseen, it also a set of wall and floor coverings that are in theme.
